Hello everyone out there.

I'm looking make my first Emerson purchase. With so many models available it's difficult to decide.

I think I've settled on the CQC-7V. This model is available only in Desert Tan. I'm fine with that, I have enough black stuff.

I've heard in one blade review that these grips are painted the tan color and not solid tan g10 grips.

Can anyone confirm? Does Emerson paint his color grips? Or are they solid colors?

Thanks for your input!

I don't own one personally but G10 can be made in different colors, ergo it seems plausible that Emerson would just mold tan G10 scales

G10 in this case is colored all the way through, it is not painted that color. Also, G10 typically isn't molded, rather it is layered fiber glass laminate. I'm sure it can be molded into any shape during manufacture, but for the knife industry it usually gets made into sheets. Banana Man, I think the regular 7V is a good choice. I don't own that one, but the mini is a little too mini for me. The "Super" is a better fit for my needs and the regular one is more than likely a really good middle of the road model in terms of size. Good luck finding your favorite one, it's tough as a lot of them are awesome.

When availability is low on a specific color and dimension, it is not unheard of for a company to actually Cerakote the color on. It's been done before. As for the review, I'm not sure what happened there just is not enough information to draw anything but random conclusions.

I have a CQC-7V and it is tan G-10, not paint. It is a wonderful knife, in my opinion. Also, if you are new to Emerson's, this model is a "conventional V-grind" and not the chisel grind normally found on the regular CQC-7. Many prefer the more conventional grind. I believe these are defined most clearly on the Emerson web site. Best of luck, the searching is half the fun!
