CQC-8 or a new car

Well, I've had what might be called a good start to the year. Then again, maybe not.

As you all know I was the lucky dog that had a 2001 CQC-8 (double ground, zero bevel) delivered to me not too long ago. I then got my hands on a 2nd CQC-8 a short time later. Things are really cruising at this point. Then, more good news....Subaru has decided to bring one of my favorite cars to the US, a turbo charged Impreza. This is the "street version" of their WRX World Ralley Championship car. I was told it will be available toward the end of the year, then I hear they are taking orders to begin delivery in March. This is too much to take. I then realize, I need cash. As I look around, I only have a few legal ways to get it....the 2001 CQC-8. This happened at the same time I was fishing around for Ryan's and few other knives. To my rescue, Joel "Extreme Knife Designer" Pirela. As I write this, my little 8 is on it's way to a new home. We haven't finalized visitation rights. I'm thinking at least every Blade Show.

Luckily, I still have the older 8. I am trying to figure a way to hold onto this one. Don't be surprised if goes up for adoption.

First off . . . Joel congratulations dude!

Dirk, you know my opinion. Hold on to it. If you let it slip from your grasp, you'll reget it forever!

Let's put it this way, every day you own the Subaru, every mile you put on it, your loosing money. Your sitting in the CQC8 pretty right at this point. No way you can loose money on that.

My opinion only

Dirk you have a true dilemma on your hands here! The WRX they are bringing to the states is a toned down version (have you read some of the test?). Still I am sure that it will be a great car. I drive an SVX and it can be a LOT of fun. My last car was a 300ZX twin turbo with a few mods to bring it to about 400hp, but that was almost too much car, the SVX is a good balance... WRX or CQC-8, HMMMM.....
Good luck Dirk!!

Hey Critical

How do you like the SVX? I had one and like the looks and AWD. Turned a lot of heads and was a good car. But..........(always a but) the tranny just went kapoot! Got it taken care of but never had that warm fuzzy feeling i had when i drove it anymore. So i got rid of it.

Have you had any tranny problems with yours?

Knife content inserted here:

Dirk

i know your pain, im on the market now for a new vehicle and am currently looking and have narrowed it down to two vehicles.

I have the money but it will take a nice chunk of change out of the accounts and i look around at what i could get rid of to get some cash in. Sold a racing bike and some guns and i keep looking at the Emersons, but like John said your losing money the second that car is yours.

The Emerson is rare and wanted by lots of devoted Emerson fans. You have in your possesion an item that a lot of people don't have and might never have an opportunity to own. Oh yeah and it's one hell of a knife
smile.gif

i think the 8 in my eyes, hands down the best knife Mr. Emerson has in his line up. Throw in the wave and you got a winner. Love all the models but the 8 has a special place in my knife lusting weakness.
smile.gif

i go through the motions in my head about selling one or possibly two of 'em and along with the other funds gathered by selling other goods...... such as a slightly used kidney a couple pints of blood so on and so on having one heck of a nice down payment but it always comes to that empty feeling that you get when you sell an item that you truly adored.

If the 8 is a favorite of yours then i would keep at least that one. Make up the money another way. Sell other custom knives you may have, that is what i've decided on. i will slowly start thinning my collection but i just can't let go of the Emersons especially just for a vehicle. At least not yet.

If this car DOES give you the warm and fuzzy feelings in your chest when you sit in it and drive it then maybe the right descision for you is to sell it BUT.......(always a but, remember) you may regret it later.

Bite the bullet and find another fund raising item that could help out. I hear that slightly used kidney values are up now

PS oh and i saw you said you only have a few legal ways to raise funds..........well i've got a sure way to make some money.

Shhhhhhh just between you and me. im gonna buy tons and tons of toilet paper for the next 2-3 months then put some money into shares of a toilet paper factories and head to a big city and drop laxitives into their water systems and just wait.......... Ka ching! Ka ching! i'd be making money everytime i hear them toilets flushing

Critical- Unfortunately even if I sold everything of value I had and then some illiegal stuff, I don't think I could come up with the $150,000 it would take to get the twin turbo 400+hp WRX. Although I did have a shot at a "slightly used" 98 WRX for $60,000. Even after a few rolls and some suspension damage, it still would have kicked ass. My girl friend has 98 2.5 RS. I have a blast whenever I get to drive it and she isn't with me. Hers only has 160hp and a rather flexible chasis. The WRX I'm waiting on is boasting 227hp, and they have stiffened the chasis, tweaked the suspension, enalrged the brakes front and back widened the wheel base, increased the redline to 7000rpm. Downside, topspeed is restricted to 120 and there is either a fuek cutoff or rev limiter so you don't blow your engine, 3 Cat. Conv. to get the car in the country. Boy it would be a shame of those fell off some how.
smile.gif
Hopefully the car's computer will allow the removal of the limiters. I have some pretty good tuners where I live. They are already doing some research to see if they can't bump the hp a little closer to 300. The tough part for me is that I truly enjoy driving. I guess I would be a street racer, except I don't really like to race anyone. It's my adrenlin release. I know a few of you know what it's like to carry as much speed as you dare into a corner and hit the apex just right. So you have an SVX. I have seen a few around. It always seemed like an under rated car. I'd like to drive one sometime. 400hp in a 300Z! I like it! What year?

Ross, let me get the plan straight. Buy up as mu TP as possible, thus depleting the supply. Then add the active ingredient, while investing in the TP companies. Demand for TP increases as do the stock of the TP companies. Are you going to sell any of the TP stockpile on the BlackMarket?

How do you think the SpecWar logo would look on a blue WRX? Maybe I sould have the car sent to Walter B. for his coating.

The nice thing is that Joel gave me some breathing room so I don't have to sell the other 8 right away. So, I might very well get to keep it.

I will do whatever it take to make a fellow suspect happy!

I remember when I was looking for a new rifle for my 3 gun matches and I was short of cash and a suspect came to the rescue...

This is a happy family!

Dirk... the 8 will be in good hands...

Best regards,

Dirk: How could ya do it? I mean that's a great knife! Take the advice you're hearing..... Hold on to those Emersons until you absolutely have to let them go!

Joel: Congratulations! You got a great one! (Like ya really need one ya knife developing bastid!)

Now for my delimina. My wife wants a new grocery getter. Like I'm wanting to spend the money on a new car when there's the possibility of picking up so many nice Customs! She's thinking she absolutely needs the new Accura SUV. (And it is a pretty nice vehicle. I know cause my brother just bought one for his wife which doesn't help the situation any!)

Anyway, with the apparent price increase in the CQC5's . . . do I sell my extra one? Anyway, what I really want is a new Kimber Custom CDP. Anyone got one for trade or sale?

HANG ON TO THOSE CUSTOMS! THE PRICE WILL ONLY INCREASE. By the way Rosanghal, you need a partner in this TP deal? What city should we hit? Back to reality now. Take Care!

Dirk,
That WRX will be very cool. Its not the WRX EVO IV like they have in the Land Of The Rising Sun but hey, its a great start. I would buy one of those WRX's too but I live in NYC where a car is just a pain to have.
As for the CQC-8, well the nice thing about Emerson Customs is that they are an investment. It sucks to sell them but you get back what you put into them.

Hi Dirk- I have an idea that may ease the pain a little, when you get the Subaru get one of those customized license plates that says: CQC8.

i went to BSR and took their High Speed Accident Avoidance course and i know what you mean by adrenalin release. i didn't want to leave! They were old crown victorias but man they moved and around the turns and having complete control over slippery conditions
smile.gif
Love it. When you get a taste of adrenalin your hooked.

i had a SVX i think it was a '92 or '93 i forget but i liked it.

It's ashame that Nissan had stopped production on the 300Zs my first car was when they were still called Datsun it was the 280 zx. It wasn't as nice and the engine seemed way underpowered.

Yes i would sell the stockpile for a slight profit

Ka ching Ka ching!!!

How do you think the SpecWar logo would look on a blue WRX? Maybe I sould have the car sent to Walter B. for his coating.

It depends on how big the logo would be and where you put it. You don't want to go too big and make it look tacky. Not that the emblem is tacky but i don't think it would look right on a car.

As to the Birdsong finish on a car. It will need to be redone every so often. It will definetely help you park easier in those really tight spots but the finish will wear off......... Oh wait he wasn't being serious?

Never mind

Hey Joel! If you ever need any breathing room just let me know i'm a nice guy too
biggrin.gif

Same goes for any other Suspects or sellers out there that need the same breathing room also. My car can wait but knife lust can't

Ross T., my SVX is a '95 so I haven't had the tranny problems (knock wood!) but the first 2 years (92 and 93) had some definite transmission problems.

Dirk, I am sure the computer can be modded to bypass rev and speed limiters. My 300 was a '90 and the modded computer raised the limiter from 7000 to 7250 rpm and completely removed the 145mph speed limiter, I had to test it out and got it to about 170mph. The beauty of that car is the 90-95 models can be boosted to about 396hp for about $1500! I am sure will enjoy modifying the WRX and a Specwar logo doesn't sound too bad!
