CQC-8 Waveless Pictures and First Impressions

Got my pair of waveless CQC-8 BTs and they're awesome.

The smooth spined blade feels great in a Filipino grip, and I love that I don't have to pinch the blade shut when I want to discreetly draw the knife from my pocket (like I would if it were waved). One interesting thing, the year is not printed on the blade like on other Emersons.

To be honest, my expectations weren't that high. I've been disappointed by fit and finish on Emerson knives in the past, after getting knives where the blade rubbed the liners because centering was so far off and seeing backspacers that didn't have a 90 degree edge anywhere. The fit and finish on my waveless '8s is perfect, the knives are flawless. Lockup is early but solid, no blade play in any direction, blade is centered when closed, G10 is countersunk evenly all around for the screwholes, even the backspacer is perfect.

I couldn't be happier, and can't recommend these enough!

Emerson F&F has been top notch for several years now. My waveless 8 is basically perfect as well and razor sharp too.









 
Nice. I have been considering dewaving my Horseman - can't afford another knife at the moment. But your pics are giving me that knife-buying itch. Must... resist :D
 
If your itching to get one, you should:). There is only so many to be made as this is a limited batch due to requests.
 
Wow, my eyes must be getting weak, as I just now noticed that the Waveless 8 has jimping on it's jimping. Cool detail I can't believe I missed at first.

Sweet. If they made a waveless Horseman id be all over it. One thing im not in love with about Emersons is how the wave forces you into a distinct saber grip. I train with Filipino grip, as well as use it for most utility cutting.

I also train with inertial opening, so the wave is not needed. My inertials are more reliable. Ive had the wave foul on me enough to be nervous about it. Also, if you're up against a wall or rolling on the ground, waves could be a problem. They're cool tho, and part of the fun in owning an Emerson, so i think ill keep em. Good thing im not walking around looking for a knife fight.

Very cool - congrats man! I have a Super CQC-8, although it's not wave-less. I love that knife...IMO one of the best blade designs ever.
 
Just received a buddy's waveless 8 which was a recent release and noticed a difference to my 2002 Surefire-8. Here's a couple pics.


 
Nice pic's Ray, I like the blade profile on your Surefire a lot more than the profile on that other one. Heck, looks like they even forgot to put the year on it. ;)
 
Those contoured scales look really nice. I've never had a set of contoured scales on an Emerson but would prefer them. Much more comfortable when using a knife for extended periods. The tweezers are a nice touch.
