So I'm thinking of taking my CQC-8, and removing some of the rather large front guard and turning it into a finger choil. Thoughts? I know it will void my warranty, but besides that what do you guys think?

Picture for reference to what I'm talking about.

I was thinking of something similar with grinding into the blade as well ala Hinderer's & SMF's.

I don't think Emerson's and choils go together personally, it doesn't really fit the knife type. Good luck with modding the knife to your liking though :)

Honestly, if Emerson would make a CQC-8 with the handle of the Commander I'd buy one immediately. I had the CQC-8 but I didn't like the handle at all.

I'll copy my post from USN:

I would say just choke up on it. I had a jungle 8 and (regretfully) sold it, but you could choke up on it easily. If you're wanting to choke up on the blade just use as is. It was no problem for me. I do it with my mcom all the time.

I'm interested to see how it turns out. I've almost grabbed my 8 as if it had a finger coil a few times so think it may be a good mod. Maybe even better on a super 8.

I like the idea. If it were my 8 i woud go a little further and take the remaining guard down by about an 1/8 to a 1/4in.

I like 'em the way they are but... try it. You know you are going to.
:D

Interesting how I received different answers here than I did on the USN. Someone pointed out that it may cause me to loose my front detent pin. This is a serious consideration, as the potential loss of that detent pin would make me reconsider this project entirely

Didn't think of that. Might want to think 3 times and cut once on this one if you plan to go forward.
