CQC& vs. BM Stryker

I currently have a Stryker but have been hearing so many great things about the CQC7. Is there that much of a difference? Should I get a CQC7 or is it too similar to a Stryker and maybe I should buy a completely different knife altogether?

Thanks,

Art

The CQC7 and the Stryker. Both are excellant, IMO. I personally like the BM Stryker due to its curvaceous nature. I like the curved drop point tanto. I really like the rounded handle. Most of all, I like the conventional grind (both sides) on the Stryker. I have always felt the CQC7 to be a bit boxy, everything on that knife has an abrupt angle. So, you may find the same going from a Stryker to a CQC7, should you decide to. I personnaly like the handle on the Specwar, lets not forget the newer SOCFK available through Extreme Outfitters. I really like this, and you might too, due to it's excellant reputation, tanto point, comfy handle, and Wave feature to make it quick as lightning! I hope this helps.
Thanks :D

I too like the Stryker. I'm a fan of Allen Elishewitz's older (Pre Artsy) designs. I thought the Stryker was a pretty fair substitute for the BM CQC7 when Ernest and BM parted ways.

But given a choice of a Stryker or a CQC7, I'd go CQC7 every time.

The CQC7 is "Tip Up Correct" first off. However, if the user prefers tip down, the knife is pre drilled and tapped for you.

The CQC7B is available with "The Wave", the Striker isn't.

It'll be interesting to see if the Striker stays in the BM line-up for long. Allen has "gone on to broaden his horizons" and is no longer affiliated with Benchmade.

Just my opinion

id ont know if i had a stryker i would go out and buy a CQC7, they are quite similar, i would get a commander, a much better, albeit higher $$ model - and this is from some one who USED to think the wave was a 'gimmick', who now carries one 24/7 rather than my crawford/kasper fighter.............to put it mildly, i like the commander, wasnt nutz about my CQC7, was ok, just not that much diff from my stryker - but both are good so what the heck huh lol........

I know some people will say, "Well, I didn't have that problem..." But alot of people did have problems opening the Stryker high speed using the Thumb Disc. So much that a Bob Kasper Associate, Kevin Gentile, A/K/A "Knifehead" was doing some Customizing of some AFCKs and Strykers back when they were very popular. I would choose the CQC-7 because it is easier to open just using the Thumb Disc. When I had my Stryker, I could not open it as fast...some could though.

Mr. Gentile was modifying them by opening up the grooved area in the G10 so there was better access to the Disc.

Of course, the Waved CQC-7 is a very, very fast knife too...but then, all of the Waved Emersons are with the exception of the SOCFK which is the most "sluggish" of them all in my opinion.

I would like to elaborate on Don's comment for those not familiar with waved knives. IMHO it is important to bear in mind that considering the SOCFK "sluggish" is relative only when comparing it to other waved knives. I believe that the slowest waved knife is still faster than any nonwaved folder that I can think of.

-A former wave skeptic.

So, if the SOCFK is the slowest of the waves, then what is the fastest? I would think that it would be the SARK. It looks like the SARK's blade, when closed has the wave sticking out more than any of the other waves. I would think that this would make it easier to wave open. Anyway, get the CQC7. I like the 910 and the 905, but something about the CQC7 is better. And you'd be surprised how sharp you can get the tip of the CQC7. Besides, if you don't like it, I'd be happy to trade it off of your hands :D
Good luck,
Matt

1998 Commander with that pesky single detent! Like the one I have. :D

I don't have a 98 Commander but my waved CQC-7 is a rocket not to mention very easy to engage due to its straight lines.

Having "Waved em all", I'd say that a "worn in/tweeked" full sized Commander is the easiest (probably because I have the most practice with it), the SARK/PSARK is right behind that.

"Fastest"? I have to say that the Waved CQC7B freakin ROCKETS open. It actually startled me the first time I opened a CQC7B full speed.
