I just got one of my dream knives in the mail this morning. Thought I'd share it with anyone interested in seeing more about it. I hope to snag some better pictures later with improvement in the weather but for now these will have to do.

Thats an absolute beaut :D:thumbup:

Is the blade on that knife a wee bit shorter than the 12s ? or is it the pic playing tricks ?
(edit: I just read the review so it seems they are the same)

Forgive me if you mentioned it in your review, I just skimed through and had a look at the pics.

Sorry I missed your post Haze. Yes its the same blade actually from every angle. It and the 12 both seem to appear to be identical to the 13 from the thumb disc or just in front of that back to the contact and stop on the blades.

It's a real nice looking knife, I really like the look of the handle shape on the 45.
I will be needing one of those when the production model comes out, thats for sure.
I believe it would also be a fine candidate for a frame lock too :thumbup:

Thats a nice looking knife STR.

I have a 13, want a 12 and now THIS!

The strange thing is I don't really like clip points all that much (on folders)

One thing about Emerson i like is the handle design, no matter the model they provide a really secure grip.

Got to get a production version of this one

I'll probably have to get a production version of it too if I can. It depends on how its produced. If it comes out with the standard .065 lock side now it won't be bad at all but personally there is just something about a beefier liner set up that steps it up a couple notches for me and a chunky frame lock would be nice too.

I tell ya the more I look at this one the more I wish it was the same handle shape cause I like the 45 handle a lot too, I just with it was thin like the 12. The 12 is so much easier to carry and I'm finding out these aggressive scales chew on pockets pretty good too! I may, before this is all said and done have to change some things as I can sort of already imagine a .125 lock side with a G10 same thickness scale only with this handle shape.

Really? You know when I was young and carrying a slip joint most days (something I still do as I've always got one in my left pocket even with my other knives that open one handed) I usually carried some cheap Old Timer like the often times used 8OT three blade model. Invariably whenever I needed it the blade that saw the most use was the bigger clip point blade unless I was wood carving or whittling in which case I'd pull out the sheepsfoot blade. I found the clip blades to be quite useful all around capable of whittling, carving, scraping old caulk from a window sill or field dressing too since the gentle upsweep of the blade allowed it to go places a Wharny or sheeps foot would struggle awkwardly through and a spear point did ok but not quite as well so to me the clip was a versatile choice.

Anyway, Haze speaking of the review it needs to be stated that the CQC45 is not a full blown custom at all but a hand ground blade in standard production handles and liners. This per Ernie so that explains some of what I saw in the production look of the folder liners. Its because they are. In my defense though I was told wrong when I called to verify that it was indeed a custom.
Not to be taken wrong here, rest assured I like the knife fine and I am carrying it a little but not many people could sell this for what he gets and get away with this I don't think. I couldn't I know that.

I hear ya on the F&F, I have had an "eye brow raiser" or two my self but generally I have found the full custom stuff from EKI has been rather good.
The production knives had always been a bit hit or miss but as you say its kind of part n' parcel so one just lets it slide.

Yeah. I don't know how much should be allowed though and how much you can get away with pushing the envelope at times. I would like to see them start removing the laser cut lines at least because I know from my own work that it takes all of a few minutes to go over the outside with a belt but the customers don't seem to mind so I guess thats all that matters.

No I don't suspect so but in his defense I just found out the knife is a custom blade with liners and handles built to the same specs as his production knives. So my mistake. I called out there yesterday and asked if it was a custom and all I was told was yes it was. I didn't get the part and was unaware of the information about the liners or scales until just now.

Just to clarify a question asked by Haze on the blade of this model. For the record, upon closer inspection it turns out that this CQC45 is an entirely unique blade different than both the 13 and the 12 models. Compared to the 12 blade both the Wave and the thumb disc are moved forward on the blade toward the tip. Its hard to see this even side by side with a 12 but there are other differences as well in how the contact and insides of the blade are made compared to the 12. I finally got around to comparing the two.

If you take the 45 blade out and try to put a 12 blade in the 45 frame the blade won't even rotate to close because it's thumb disc hits the bottom of the flat area as it rotates which prevents it from going any further.

Also, the 12 blade is not as wide in the parts of the folder forming the stop and lock contact areas so its different both there and for how it connects to the lock. The lock of the 45 is too short to work for the 12 where it would have vertical play if tightened down.

I'm sure it is identical to the 1911. But someone asked if it was the same as the 12 so thats what I was covering since my first guess was incorrect.
