Hey Tattoo,
Thanks for the heads up. The 6 listed has all of the goodies. The seller indicates that there is no reserve, yet the minimun bid is $1,2000. I not sure how ebay works.

Here we go again !
4+ days.

Alright, Gentlemen,

Place your bets as to how high this auction's gonna go!

Hmm... that CQC5 in June got a final bid of $1625.00 Wonder how insanely high this one's gonna get...

Answer closest to the final bid wins all of John Hollister's Commanders! (Right, John?)

Ark,
I gots no idea man. I've seen them and passed on them. For size and concealment I'll take a Viper 1 anyday. Otherwise a 6,7,8,9 or any number of others. IMHO

For those of us who really do not need a knife for defensive purposes & the toughest thing that we come across everday is a UPS package or letter; the CQC5 is the perfect size knife. I have to agree that the prices on these little bugger are high, but after looking for one for many years, I finally took the plunge & paid the price. Search is over, knife is in hand. Now onto the next quest. Some of us just collect smaller knives.

BTW I don't carry the 5.

I carry a Lightfoot LCC.

We all have our favorites. This Emerson affliction that we suffer from effects each person differently. So with that I say to each his own.

That said, I have to agree with Tamishigiri. The Viper 1 is a great SMALL knife. Its blade to handle ratio is much better. I would carry mine if it wasn't...well, you know. COLLECTABLE.

Anyway, the Viper 1 is certainly one if not perhaps the most overlooked Emerson custom folder.

I have to agree with my esteemed colleagues, Tam and Ark on all counts. The Viper 1 is significantly smaller than a 6, but the blade is nearly as long, and has a vicious shape to it. Pound for pound, I think it is the meanest knife Ernie has ever made. For daily carry, though, I think the 6 or 7 is probably a better choice (if size is not an issue) with the V1 as back-up.

Yeh, but ya' have to give the CQC5 it's "Classic" look in a small package.

David, You carrying a custom LCC? Just curious, I have one on order.

I had a Viper 1 but no matter how I gripped it,my fingers would contact the liner lock, causing the lock to disengage. Ernie was great about modifying the liner but the problem continued. The cutout in the bolster and my grip just wouldn't work together. I eventually sold it but if I could solve the problem I would get another because it was one great carry knife. [Yes I actually carried it.]

John,
I do carry a custom Lightfoot LCC with carbon fiber scales. I would have prefered micarta or G-10, but that was the only one available. Great knife. You'll enjoy yours when you get it. I switch between the Lightfoot & small Sebenza.

Ark,

I guess that one reason the CQC5 is so popular is that losts of places have laws that set a 3" limit on blade length.

Regards,

Ed
