CQC7-I still love it!

Ya know, the more I read posts putting down the 'C7, and the chisel grind, and the liner lock, the more I like mine. Yeah, I have spydie's and rekats, but the C7 was my first good knife-I saved for it, I read about it, and when it went back to Emerson production I bought one. The thing is quality. Snaps open with a flick of the wrist, looks intimidating, feels like a tank, good ergonomics-I guess I'd just like to say that my C7 is still my favorite. G10, Titanium, ATS-34 and Ernie Emerson. Put in pot and simmer.

I second that!

I just recently purchased a spear point Emerson production. It is a great improvement over the Benchmade model. I have used the Benchmade that I purchased around 7 years ago and like this Emerson production model even more.

I too have all of the Microtechs, Benchmades, Rekats, Spydercos, as well as quite a few customs. I really like the Commander and the CQC's-great values and great knives. I am now waiting for a Specwar to arrive.

From my experience, you are lucky and correct.

When the production shop gets a knife fitted properly, they are really great knives. Whne they get it wrong, it is a knife that needs to be sent back, somtimes more than once. They really need to pay closer attention to quality control. I have about a dozen Emerson productions go through my hands, Commanders, SpecWar, CQC-7, etc. All of them except for the Tiger Shark fixed blade and the Caracci dagger. Probably half of them were right and they were incredible knives. I am still trying to get a couple of them back. The ones that were wrong have been sold and I don't want to see them again.

If you get a properly fitted Emerson, KEEP IT! Learn from my mistakes.

Dirk-good advice. I'd considered selling mine a while back when I really, really wanted a Carnivour and didn't have the cash. I'm glad I didn't. I've learned two valuable lessons lately: Only sell a knife to get another knife, and only then when you've exhausted every other possibility. In this case, I simply decided that I would rather live "tight" for a couple weeks and buy the Carnivour outright. One of my better decisions. Now I'm toying with the idea of sending the C7 to Birdsong (sp?) for the Black-T finish, as the bead blast finish is high maintenance. As much as I love my Carnivour, my C7 is STOUT!

I almost made the same mistake with my CQC7. I had it listed here for $100 or something, and I had a guy offer $90 for it. I was ready to say "YES" when I picked it up, snapped it open, and said to myself "Self, what the HELL are you doing?!?" I told the guy I had decided not to sell, and removed the CQC7 from my For Sale post. I'm very glad I did.

Alpha: Who does the Black-T finish? Mine is also beadblasted, and I would much rather have a Black-T model. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

rfrost-Nakano suggested to me a few weeks ago that I contact:

BLACK T
Walter Birdsong

He is the originator of the trademarked "Black T" finish. I havn't gotten around to doing it yet, and now I have a new idea:
Senator is selling a neck knife that had a bead blasted finish when he recieved it. He re-finished it with 600 grit compound. I can't decide which idea I like more-the black T C7 or a finely polished C7! Both seem like winners! Let me know what you do with yours.

I have got a CQC-7 production knife. The main pivot screw began backing out the moment I purchased it. I have to tighten it every 10-15 times that I open it...That's annoying.
Aside from that it is a better knife than Benchmade's CQC-7's.

Hey guys, I am new here but I thought I would put my two cents in.. I do agree the CQC7 is a great knife!! I also have a Specwar Tanto blade in the Black T finish, I had to send it back 'cause it rubbed the liner BAD!
Is this a common occurance for Ernie's production knives, I have heard a lot of complaints, and it has taken forever to get it back!! I still love the knives!!
