Just picked up an older NIB partially serrated CQC7 tonight
marked 99 and 824.
Should get here in a week or so.
9/9 is the date it was made right? 1999, whats the 824?
Would this be 154cm? or ATS-34?
Any idea what year they were introduced?
Need to figure out if its going into the rotation
or is better to keep NIB.

Thanks in advance!

The vintage is indeed 1999, the number means it was the 824th CQC-7 to be made in 99.

All emersons are 154CM with the exception of the very few Titanium blades hes done. Some of his super early stuff might use a different steel but the production stuff you see today is all 154CM. (EKI has been around since 1979)

The CQC-7 was produced by Benchmade before EKI made it them selves so yours is not the earliest piece available.
I find serated models are also not as popular on the secondry market as the satin PEs are for example but if its minty fresh and you want it in a collection, its a keeper.

Thanks for the info.

And I agree with your comments.

What I am really looking for is a PB BM 975.:)

Interesting things appear on the exchage forum here from time to time, keep an eye out ;)

My mint 1999 CQC7 showed up, its really nice!
Adjusted a bit of blade play out of it and plan to carry now and then. (Its officially in the large rotation)

This may be inappropriate here, but how do the older BM's compare to the corresponding Emerson models?

I assume a bit of blade play is normal on this knife because if you tighten to get it all out it does not open as easily as I Iike.

Thanks again

the older BM's are very similar to the EKI '7s except ATS34 vs 154CM, & being tip down vs tip up (or both in some cases),

the 975 has a 3.75" blade vs the 3.5 of the '7 or the 970.

i very much prefer the EKI '7 to the BM '7 although the BM aint bad, the steel is really about the same, i just prefer the tip up to the tip down carry, its what i have practiced with. the F&F is pretty much the same imho, both are great in that regard, if i wanted a little longer blade than a std '7 i would get a super '7 or super SOCFK, or a I&I tanto, i suppose the EKI options are a little more expensive vs buying a 975, but thats what i'd do.

but the 975's are pretty good, i have had several of them myself and all were great knives.

I thought EKI had a knife similar to the 975? So, just the super with the wave function is close?
I also prefer tip up carry (last 20 years) Usually convert if needed.
Am starting a small BM collection, that's why I am trying to find a 975 & 600 Brend.
Am holding out for a non serrated.

Will pick up a satin plain blade Super 7 for use, and continue to look for a 975 & 600 for the collection.
Thanks again!

Now to find the EKI abbreviation chart......

BM 600's are very hard to come by FWIW, i had one a few yrs back and swapped it off for something or another, i was kinda disappointed in it to be honest, was smaller than expected, smaller than the brend it was designed after for sure. i havent seen one in a while, i would imagine a LNIB one is not gonna be cheap.

imho the waved super '7 is the closest thing to the 975, or the I&I tanto, back in '01 or so i wanted an EKI like the 975 and the I&I was the only option, but its handle is totally different than the BM so not really the same, IIRC the super '7 would be pretty close to the same thing, handle & blade, other than the wave of course. the super SOCFK would have the same blade as the 975 but the handle again is totally different, i prefer the SOCFK handles myself though.

yeah i coulda moved the clip on my 975 but by then i was more into EKI vs BM so i never got around to doing that with any of my 975's.

also ya hear so much about bad liner locks on EKI's, the only EKI (design) i have personally had lock issues with was a BM 975, which they fixed of course, but just shows ya anyones LL can have issues.

good luck on finding those knives,

There is a NIB BM 600 on E-gay right now, but the price is way too high.
(for me anyway) BIN price is $329.00, will take $265.00 though. :thumbdn:

But my wanted list of knifes in that price range do not include BM.

I was wondering if the 600 was a smaller model......... not good....... Thanks for the info.

What I would really like is a non wave'd Super '7

EKI is about 40 minutes away.
Maybe I will stop by and ask them to build one for me?
LOL LOL Worth a try..........

Found a couple OK cond 975's in the $100.00 range, but one is serrated the other black.... Am finding a lot of that lately........Am also finding a few
9700's in the $225.00 range, again serrated......:thumbdn:

Thanks again for the info.
Really helped me out.

Hey, new member here. I lost my EDC CQC7A combo back in Iraq in '04. No cool story. I think it fell of my gear(somewhere I shouldn't have had it anyway) when we piled out of our 7 ton at DFAC2 on Al Asad. That blade had been out of production for a while and my search came up fruitless in the usual places. I called EKI in late 05 and talked to one of their guys(I wish I could remember his name). Anyway after explaining the situation, he informed me of a short run of CQC7A's that were going to go out. Needless to say I paid for one on the spot. Not only that but they gave me a good deal on it as well. It goes without saying where my loyalties lie. EKI is without a doubt, an outstanding company.

thats a lot for one, i payed $150 for mine and was disappointed at that price point $300 + i woulda been howling lol, when i got it i wanted a brend whatever it is i cant think of the model right now, and thought the 600 would be a good substitute, but like i said it was so much smaller, like in 3/4 size, was disappointed. if i was gonna spend $300+ i would just save a little more $$ and get a real brend vs the 600.

if ya want a non waved super '7 just dremel off the wave it wont take 5 mins.

seems like most 975's i have seen were part serrated vs plain edge i think they made a lot more of those vs the PE, i bet i have seen a dozen 975's for sale thru the yrs and only 1 or 2 were PE.

the 9700 is a good one, i could see $200+ for one of those, EKI doesnt make anything to compare to that one ie an auto. i have handled one and it was nice a it really opened with authority IIRC some had a prob in that regard too, they early ones (IIRC??) mighta had a weak spring, they still opened ok, just not with a lot of authority,
