CQC7 'rattles'?

Today was a pretty good day;) Of course when you've been eating everything thru a straw for 4 weeks it does not take much to make a day better (fractured jaw):p

My new CQC7BW-GH-SF (I just love to type that!) came today AND a Mach 1 SF-PS (which will probably go to a new home soon as I really can't get used to serrations, and there's this watch, see, and I need an SOFCK...)

But my problem is, the CQC7 'rattles' when closed??????? The rattle seems to be coming from the pivot end, does not happen when open and I can't figure out where the heck it's coming from:confused: It waves just dandy, locks up tight and is really nicely finished, but the rattle really bothers me:eek:

Any suggestions from the 'suspects'

Take it apart and shim it with a piece of paper. No more rattle. That's what I did to all of mine. Leo G.

Ishay, you can either follow LAG3's advice and use a piece of paper, or alternatively, you could melt some candle wax and let 1 or 2 drops drip onto the stop pin holes, then gently set the stop pin the wax will sort of hold the stop pin there gently and prevent any more rattling..

Here's the deal. The newer stop pins are slightly undersized in leangth . . . on purpose.

The loose fit allowes the stop pin to rotate. Allowing the pin to rotate helps spread the impact of the blade against it on different places on the pin whenever the knife is opened. This helps to slow wear on the knife.

Two ways to keep from hearing the ever so slight "rattle":

1. Put a dab of grease in one of the pivot holes.

2. Don't shake the knife next to your ear. :D

Hmmm, and here I was ready to ship some blades back to EKI.
I recently got a green g10 sf Mini 7 with the anodized liners and a sfs Waved 7 that have a minor rattle. I notice it more with the mini 7, and was wondering why they did that.
Thanks for the info John! :D

I agree with John on 2. :D

All good suggestions. If they don't work try this...it does seem too simple...

Does it 'rattle' when its closed? when its clipped to you pocket? Could be the blade is loose between the liners. Has happened to me before...tighten pivot screw solved the problem.

Good luck

:D
