I've already got a Comrade and a CQC8, so I want something a little smaller. I've narrowed it down to the 7 and mini commander. I dislike that both are harder to sharpen than normal, but none of the other smaller Emerson's are attractive to me. Which do you guys prefer?

i can't speak for the mincom, but i think the cqc7 is the perfect size. i have not sharpened it yet, but my A spearpoint seems pretty srtaightforward to sharpen. it is just different, but it makes sense. the B tanto is really not that bad either, just different than your everyday knife.

it is big enough to fill your hand, but not retarded like a rukus or something

I'd have to go for the 7 is one of its forms,
The 7a with the spear point is probably the best bet but the 7b
is still a great little knife and actually not bad at all to sharpen.

I am not a big fan of recurves so dont like the Commi
blade shape much but the handle on that knife is great.

Great, I just sold my non-wave CQC7 on the forums. I guess I'll buy another one, with wave this time.

Persosnally, I use use a mini cqc7 at work more than any of my other knives. The chissel ground tanto works great for me when breaking down boxs. The stout chissel edge will take a lof of abuse and is actually easier to sharpen then conventional edges. However, it is not as good at slicing as other designs, so when away from work, I grab one of my other knives.. I guess the choice depends on how you use a knife

P--- If you want a CG slicer, you must have a traditional CG, a zero grind. That grind will blow you away.

I prefer the 7 like most of the guys. Was handling a mini commander yesterday, it felt blade or front heavy because the handle is designed for you to hold it back further from the blade. Seemed like I had less control of the knife overall. But that's just one's opinion!

the shapes might suggest piercing or slashing, i tried it on pork belly (already dead, hold your horses) mini commander stabs and slashes just fine.

I bought both and prefer the 7. I think the handles on the mini commander is too small. I can barely get all my fingers on there and it's cramped. Great ergonomics if it was a bit bigger, maybe I'll try out the regular commander someday. The trouble is the finger guard/choil take up so much space my pinkie has no room.

I've got a CQC-7 and Mini Commander. Working on getting a feel for the both of them. So far the 7 feels much more practical.
The Mini is cool too, so I don't know what will end up as an EDC just yet. The edge is leaning more towards the 7.

i've been in the market for a mini 7, but i haven't been able to find out if they come without the wave.

That's true man. Can you live with it? That---is the question. :)
How come you do not like the Wave?

i don't want to ruin my pocket, though i hear the g-10 + clip would do that already. plus, i'd like a slimmer profile. i was considering the a100, too, so i might pick that up...
