I haven't visited this forum much but have developed an interested in purchasing a spearpoint CQC7. Two questions regarding these. Do these come with the wave and in the green handles. I also have read about QC problems and linerlock problems with the Emersons. Any comments will be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to our Forum!

1. I have not seem a Spearpoint CQC7a with a wave. The Tanto version is shown on the Emerson website along with green handles:

2. As to quality control problems, if you do a search through this forum you will see that although there have been occasional problems in the past all of the new stuff is A-OKAY!!!

Regards,

Ed

I, like you, was a bit concerned about QC before I ordered a 7b just before Christmas. Murray Haday at Proedge brought in somewhere around 8 and gave me what he thought was the best of the bunch. He said there was not much to choose from between them, however...

I have not couned the number of times I have opened this knife in the last 3 weeks, but it must be reaching 1000 soon, most of them waves:D :D :D contrary to some reports, it is a very fine knife:

1) it locks just a titch to the right of centre (started out 1/3 of the way in, but has settled down). Position of the lock does not change whether it is eased open or rocketed open with a wave.
2) the pivot bolt does not loosen at all, though I have been gradually tightening it (total of about 1/3 turn now) as the knife beds in
3) there is zero, 0, nada, nicht, NO play in the knife when it is opened and locked...it feels like a fixed blade knife.
4) if this is the knife you want BUY IT!!! If there is a problem, send it back and get it rectified. The only thing I would do is try to find one with the least amount of lock engagement, then do lots of openings to get it to bed in.
5) if you don't want to spend money DONT BUY IT as I now want to get a Commander, and maybe a SARK, and maybe....

You poor Bastid, you've got the illness!

A colleague of mine likens it to "genital herpes". Once you get 'sick' there is no cure. You can't see it, but you know it's there. When it flares up, you get a burning and you gotta do something about it! (No, I don't have genital herpes! )

:p

get an emerson, you wont regret it, my CQC7 is still my favorite folder after about a year of having it. Now i have the emerson disease and have just bought a commander recently, currently a lagriffe is on order and i will probably be getting a SOCFK pretty soon. There is something about emerson that makes it stand above other knives.

Do yourself a favor and get the 7A. I have one and without a doubt it is the best of the bunch QC wise between the 3 I already own. Locks up like a bank vault, is razor sharp, and it is a stout little blade. If I were to just own one I it would be the 7A. Doesn't scare people when you take it out either. I don't care for the wave feature cause I don't want to use that feature all the time and it makes for a more clumsy draw when not trying to use it. At least this is what I have found on my Commander. Good luck and keep'em sharp.

I have to echo everyone's thought here. The CQC7A that I've had for about a year now is a very solid performer. The only trouble I had with it intially was sharpening it:( Now that I've tried a few different methods I finally seem to get consistant results (I use a "Sharpmaker 204" fine stick freehand and then strop it like it says to do on the website). I just love the rugged looks and performance of this knife and the QC of mine was as perfect a knife as I've ever bought. Regards. -Rick

To echo every one else: JUST DO IT!

P.S. My apologies to Nike INC. LOL

I had "my" perfect do everything knife with the BM 710,untill I got a 7a to see what the fuss was about.I now own 3 7's.A mini 7b and 2 full size, one plain and one 50/50.

I carry 1 (ok sometimes 2 ;) ) on the job as a firefighter,in my waistband while working out and everywhere in between,I even gutted a buck with one this season.

QC has been fine overall.1 stop pin that rattles and the back side of 1 pivot pin is not quite flush, this does not effect strength, sharpness, durablity ect.You can use them hard.

If you are a person who has dirty hands a lot I have found that the green does show the dirt.I take the scales off and clean them with a brush and soap, but they stil look dirty, something to keep in mind.

No wave on the spearpoint :( ,but don't worry once you get your first Emerson I'm sure you'll buy more at least one other with a wave.
