CQC7B Problems

After reading the threads about loosening hinge screw problems on the commander I looked at my production CQC7B. After opening and closing a few times I noticed that the screw became extremely loose.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Loc-tite (lower strength type) inside the screw maybe?

How loose do you _normally_ keep the pivot? Is it loose enough to flick open really easiliy to begin with? That could be your problem right there. My CQC pivot is tightened up such that a REALLY hard flick with the right technique will open and lock the blade, yet normal thumb openings are still nice and smooth. This is for legal reasons in Canada, BTW. I found that when I loosened the pivot screw enough to wrist-flick it open 100% of the time it got loose after a few openings too. As it is, I have no trouble with mine coming loose, but I do check it once in awhile to be sure...

Fortunatley, the "problem" you're describing isn't really a problem. If I were you, I'd buy Loctite 242 removable strength Threadlocker. Use one drop one the male threads (go sparingly to moderate and take care not to make a mess), set the tension and let it sit over night.

As far as the tension goes, I like to get it as loose as possible WITHOUT ANY blade play. Open your knife, hold back the liner lock, and wiggle the blade side to side. Try to set the tension so your just at the threshold. Blade play is bad.

I had to do this with my CQC7A and Commander the first day I got them. One other quick note: Is your knife broken in yet? I don't mean the lock, I mean the action (washers). If is isn't, you'll have to so it twice. After the first "setup", the action will become smoother and loosen up. After a week or so of opening, you can set the tension for good.

Good luck,
Terry.
