CQC7B too big for the wife?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to get my wife a EDC for self defense and for utility use if she were to get into a survival situation on the way home from work :)

I was thinking about a WAVE CQC7B but is that too big for her? She's 5'2", average build, and I'm thinking this might be a bit large for her to carry comfortably.

So, then I thought a Mini CQC7B might be cool, but unfortunately that doesn't come WAVEd. So, then I thought maybe a Mini Commander might be good, but then again that's a pretty good sized knife for her body size methinks...

What do you guys think? Sark? What I'm looking for her is reliable, easy carry, comfortable to carry, effective for self defense, and lightweight (but that goes along with comfortable).

Thanks...

Vern, really it depends on mindset. One young lady I'm very close too carries a PE "Satin" Mini-A. Previous to that she carried a CRK&T Peck. On the other side of the scale, another (the infamous "Sarah") carries two full sized Commanders, (one '98 and one 2000) and a Glock G19C daily.

I'm working the first up is Survival Mindset and ability. She's getting there, slowly, but surely.

Sarah is full blown "Hard Corp". She's 5'4", quit the lady (when she wants to be) and is one of the few people, male or female, that's really mentally switched on when it comes to a Survival Mindset.

Both young ladies will be moving to Mini-Cs soon.

Did I mention that Sarah is starting up a monthly IDPA match in her area. :D

Vern,

My wife is about the same size, heightwise. She carries a Raven, but I would think the regular 7 would be just fine. The handle really is fairly small and should work out fine.

I would go with the waved-7 for her. If it doesn't work out, any number of people here would be willing to buy it from you, then you could give the smaller version a try.

I'd recommend the Mini CQC7 A or B. I have really come to like this little guy and would go so far as to say it is a sleeper in the Emerson line-up.
It has a handle larger than most other 3 inch blades so it is comfortable to hold. Also, the blade is just as stout as the full size CQC7.

I would recommend the plain blade with no serrations. I think it is handier given the smaller blade size.

What will probably happen is that you will like it and have to get another one for yourself!

Vern:

Firstly, welcome to the EKI Forum, you'll love it around here!

Just a quick note in regards to a mini-7, I ordered one for myself (a mini-7A) with the intention of carrying it as a secondary blade to my Commander. I had it in my hands about 97 seconds until my wife saw it.

She's about 5' 7", maybe 120 lbs. soaking wet, but full of 'fire and brimstone'. Although she carries 3 knives on duty, the mini-7 is her EDC.

You can bet she won't get a look at my mini-C when it comes in! ;)

Well John, I guess she can see it as long as she lets me leave the kithchen! :p

...isn't there some type of law; 'thou shalt not covet thy husbands knives'.
