My 2012 cqc8 has a lockbar that partially unlocks when gripped tightly. Is this something that can be fixed? I havnt carried it because of this and was reminded of the problem in another thread. Thanx.

If it's unlocking from squeezing the handle, sounds odd. Is the liners twisting a little bit from the firm grip enough to "walk" the lockbar off the blade tang? Is the lockbar tension low? You can always gently bend it to increase tension. Have you tried contacting EKI about it?

It's hard to describe. I'll grip it firmly(not gorilla tight) and I feel a pop and the lockbar moves. The lockbar seems to have a reasonable amount of tension. I havnt contacted them yet. I put it on the back burner. I heard somewhere that 2012 models had some lock issues. Just wondering what you guys think. I'll prolly send it in since my interest has been rekindled.

You know what, I pulled the knife out the drawer and played with it. It seems the finger groove in the handle permits my index finger to squeeze against the lockbar opening it. I don't know if the newer lockbars are recessed more or the finger grooves are shallower. The way it is now doesn't work for me.

That's what it sounded like to me when I read your first post. I've had a couple of liner locks where that happened with me when I got a real firm grip on the handle. I've had it happen with a couple of framelocks, too. They just go the other way and lock up tighter. In my case, it's not the knife, it's my grip that causing the problem. I have to remember to adjust it a bit for the liner locks where that happens and make sure I'm not covering the lockbar if I'm going to have to use the knife in a firm grip.

Sosa, is this what's happening when you grip the knife?
here is a continue video from same user
about an issue with lock fail on that same knife.

Is it just this knife, or any Emerson you pick up?

I've known several people who, due to their hands or how they use them, somehow manage to unlock liner lock knives by holding them and squeezing.

I've tried and can't get any of my Emersons to unlock accidently.

Try cleaning the lockface with some isopropyl alcohol. It's possible there might be some grime or oil on the face.

I think this can happen to a lot of liner locks. It shouldn't matter very much unless you're in a life or death situation or hard using your knife. The linerlocks on my Emerson, Terzuola and Elishewitz all do this if gripped really hard or gripped at an angle.

No matter how hard I try, squeezing the handles in any way, unless I put pressure on the liner lock; it should not unlock. It has to be returned.

Yeah that's about right.

It's the only emerson I own or have handled for an extended time. Have lots of liner and frame locks and never had a problem.

Yeah, that's good advise I disassembled it and cleaned it shortly before I put it up. Had no effect on this issue.

Might need a new liner. Send her in and we'll take care of it for you. Did you buy it new? There are no modifications done to the liners? If it's all stock then it's totally covered under our lifetime warranty.

I bought it unused on the exchange. Appears unmolested and stock. I'll send it in. Thanx.

Sounds like a pretty good resolution to me!

I am glad I have another CQC-7 headed my way from a friend.

Well I got it back today. I was expecting it in like a month so I was surprised to see the package. Liner replaced. Problem solved. Thanx.
