Now this looks just like a piece of oh it looks tactical and that nonsense knife. So I need to know worth it or not?
This post make not make the most sense cause it's 4:01 AM but I think you get the gist is it worth the $200 something for the black, serrated one or should I just find a cheaper one?

i have the smaller version, the mk II,the only thing i dont like is the pocket clip is low on the handle, making the knife stick out alot.its real well made,on par with a microtech, lockup is perfect, tight tolerances,154cm steel, but not the best knife for every day carry because it sticks out far from the pocket.the larger one might stick out slightly more, you should try to check one out in person to see if you like it before spending 200 bucks on it.....

Monster knives, big and tough. The Mark I is at that crossover point where it might be better to carry it in a sheath.

Whether it's worth it depends on your need for a very heavy duty knife, regardless of the size. The Mark II gives up only a little blade length but a lot of mass. Much easier to carry.

Yeah but the mark II doesn't have the seatbelt/cord/whatever cutter, which I'm guessing is prob what causes part of the size difference.

Not really. The secondary blade is housed in a bump on the back of the butt, not after it. In fact, the Mark II has an extensihon of the butt with its carbide glass-breaker. It is simply a smaller knife in length and height and thickness.

The original CQD is the large model, with a secondary blade at the butt of the knife.
The Mark I is a CQD with a glass-breaker added at the bolster.
The mark II is the small model with a glass-breaker at the butt.

The Mark I has a 3.75" blade, 5.75" handle, which is 1.5" wide & 5/8" thick.
The Mark II has a 3.25" blade, 4.5" hanlde, which is 1.25" wide & 4/8" thick.

Esav, does your Mark I blade really measure 3.75"? I just measured mine (from the top of the thumb stud to the tip) and it's maybe a 1/32 of an inch shorter than that. Either I've been sharpening way too much or the advertised blade length is rounded up.

The Mark I was not designed with civilian EDC in mind. The handle is intentionally oversized for maximum leverage, grip and proper indexing even when wearing gloves. It's huge.

I EDC mine. It's too big for pocket carry.

My previous EDC was a balisong which I carried in my right front pocket with my cellphone. When I replaced it with the Mark I, I tried carrying it the same way. The Mark I is so much of a badass that it beats the crap out of my phone when I put them together. It also beats up my hand when I reach into that overfilled pocket. In fact, the glassbreaker and wingwalk also beat up the pocket itself.

Now I carry it in the prylon sheath, inside the waistband. The tek-lok the sheath comes with is way too bulky, so I just jury-rigged my own IWB loop. No problems, and of course it's much faster to whip out when you don't need to open the blade anymore. Sheeple give me funny looks, though. So actually on most days I end up also carrying the balisong in my pocket. It's a much more common sight here in the Philippines than a blacktical folder, and people don't give it a second look.

The CQD is a badass knife and it feels badass. When it's locked open it feels like a fixed blade. I have not held a folder that inspires confidence like the Mark I does. The downsides to using it for EDC all pertain to the fact that it was never intended to be used as EDC.

I wasn't worried about the fine points. :) I just measured it against a 6" ruler I keep handy. Actually, I measured my CQD, the original model without the glass-breaker. My Mark I is an auto, hidden away in a drawer in another room.

There may be small differences between models, years, since ownership changed, -- or a tip wearing down! :D
