CR Knives and Benchmade

I recently read of a possible collaboration. Anybody else heard of this. An affordable Sebenza????

I've also heard about this, but I don't know the details. However, I've also heard about an upcoming Microtech/Chris Reeve collaboration. I don't know whether any of this will materialize.

Just my opinion by why would CRK want to collaborate with Benchmade? It's like having Ferrari collaborate with Honda or something.

I think CRK does an excellent job at what they do, and anything that has their name on it is a top notch product. With Benchmades spotty QC I don't know why CRK would invest time in a collaborative project.

Is it possible you are referring to the Benchmade "Pinacle"? The knife is a intregal frame lock similiar to the Sebenza, and the blade style look about the same.

I'd certainly like to see a Chris Reeve/Benchmade collaberation. It would get a CR designed knife into the affordable range.
Mitch- I own several Benchmades, and the ONLY QC problem I have ever seen is with their sharpening. That is one area that needs MAJOR improvement. I think if they were to design & build a sharpening fixture, they would eliminate that problem. I also have several friends with Benchmade knives, and the only other problem any of them have had was with the Emerson 970's screws stripping out of the G-10. BM has solved that problem by using steel inserts on the stryker, which is very similar in construction to the 970, and one of my friends 970 came back from the factory with new G-10 scales, AND steel inserts. My 970's screws are still tight after 4 years of daily carry. And you say BM is like a Honda?? What does that make Cold Steel?? a Chevy Vega?

Maybe when we see Benchmades with good grind lines, sharp edges, and consistant quality control we will know that the collaboration has happened!

Benchmade a Honda? I don't think so. Hondas are relatively reasonably priced and provide good value. Benchmade is more like the pre-Ford Jaguars. You paid too much, knew it; got inferior QC and reliability, knew it; but loved it nonetheless, and knew it.

I see no benefit to Chris Reeves in getting into a venture with BM. CRK doesn't need to dilute his brew. BM, on the other hand, has much to gain from buying/borrowing quality quick and easy.

There was discussion between CR and Benchmade about a production Sebenza four of five years ago, but Reeve eventually went to CRK&T, but the project imploded. With the Pinnacle out, it would be hard to imagine why Benchmade would be interested in a Reeve colaboration.

Maybe Benchmade is doing some overflow machine work for CRK on contract.

Nimrod, I think your name fits. While Benchmade may not be perfect, for the price, they are really impressive knives. I have yet to see a single Benchmade with grind lines off enough that anyone but a machinist (or similar) could tell. And I've never even heard of any more reliability issues than any other knives. Personally, I have no interest in a Sebenza; I can get custom knives for that price which will be much better, so why would I even bother looking at CRK? Still, I don't go around posting that in a thread which asked a simple question, without asking for opinions.

Here I'm with JB. I have some BM's and so far didn't experienced any quality problem. Believe me, I'm not an idiot and I'm not confusing two things: I have not experienced and it is impossible at all. Of course lemon sliding through quality control always is possible, the issue here is does the manufacturer fixe this lemon in the way minimally tiring for customer or not. I had no opportunity to try BM Customer Service (because I have no quality problems) but I have heard from other knife users - BM does.

On the other hand, no one knife manufacturer is perfect at 100%. Sometimes I have read here posts about quality issues with Sebenzas also, "pretty hard to open", for example here.
If we would compare how much CR knives are sold and how much BM knives - who knows wouldn't the relation between lemons and overall sold knife quantity be more favorable for BM.
Knife overpricing is not the same that overqualiting.

Jfrank3600, the only similarity I could find between Pinnacle and Sebenza is the similar locking device. Blade shape, edge geometry, handle shape, clip positioning etc. are quite different.
Oh yes, they both have one blade and one handle...
