I am new to these and currently have a Sebenza coming to me - but I was wondering if CR does any official modifications to thier knives. As in sending one to them to add the micarta or wood to the handle.

I really like the look and wonder if anyone might know the details of such official modifications? Thanks.

as far as I know, they do not modify an existing knife to add something that is not already there, wood, graphics, etc.

The exception is they can put dual thumstuds on.

Call and ask, that's the most direct way.

Doug, I'd call and ask -- but it seems to me it'd be easier to sell the one you have and then buy one with inlays -- if that's what you want...

What did you get BTW?

Xer! How are you?

Well I believe this is a large Sebenza - user. :) Its what I wanted and I think I am liking it more and more - now that I have it. Nice feel and opens very nicely - closing it is a bit more of a challenge - still trying to figure out how to easily move the lock without using two hands....

But it is a basic large Seebee - right?

Doug, if the lock is that stiff, you can send it to CRK for an overhaul. I generally just disassemble mine and lightly bend the belt clip a touch back so it's a hair off the lock bar. If its still to tight, try giving the lock bar a slight tweak back. I have had very good results in the past as well as now. But most would not advice to tweak it yourself, but I do...to a slight extent.

Oh, happy to see you over here, welcome to CRK! Congrats on the Sebbie!

Also there's a lot of great info in the sticky threads at the top of the forum, check 'em out.

Thanks Jules - I tried that (the bending of the lock arm- just a little) and now I can do it with one hand - excellent! And I must say that even though this baby has seen some use it is an excelent blade - I am quite impressed. I had tried Spydies in the past - and given the price point not bad blades - but I always felt they were just too ..... breakable. Not this Sebenza for sure! - gives one a real feel of comfort and trust:)

But a question - does CR re anodize the handel if you sent it in to them? [Never mind - I read the stickies and understand now] I am thinking of doing that - although with it the way it is I am not as worries about adding use marks to her....

Thanks guys - I have become infected with a new bug .... just what I needed!! :)

In the past I sent in a small Sebby for a refurb. They re-blasted the scales and added the Solar Wind graphic without color. It was a nice contrast, the bright metal graphic against the blasted scales. Can't remember what they charged but it wasn't all that much. I sold to someone on this forum.

Doug,

Before you send it in to refurb... you can take a green scothbrite pad and re-finish the titanium scales yourself. Just go back and forth along the length of the scales. This removes the "tumbled" or "blasted" look and puts a very rough satin finish on it... I think it looks better than the original, and it holds p against scuffs/scratches WAY better. If you don't like it, jst send it in anyway for the re-blast at the shop...

I'll see if i can find some pics to show what I mean.

Cool - please do. I kind of like this one as more of a user (and what a user!)

If I send it in it might look too nice to play with and I would not like that :D

Here you go, this is just from about 2 minutes with the scotchbrite pad... Before that it had the "beadblasted look", but was quite scratched up:

Some like it, some don't

Here it is before the scrub (notice some of the scratching):
