My son dropped my watch on the patio. It managed to hit one of the imbedded pebbles just right and cracked the crystal (mineral glass). Not an expensive watch, but a great beater. Dakota Ion, Black ~$45.

So I email the company, they wanted $30 to fix it and that didn't include shipping. Checked with my local jeweler, and he can replace it for $15. Only will take a day or two at most. That sure made me happy. Great family run business.

Invicta was the same way with my old Sub clone. Movement took a dump (quartz), still under warranty. Their quote for "repair" was insane.

$28 for shipping there and back, mandatory, even if under warranty. This does not include my cost to ship.
25% of retail price of the watch for a new movement, if they decided it wasn't under warranty. That's $68.75.

$28 best-case, $96.75 worst-case. I bought the watch new for $69, and they're available freely for less if you look.

Shelved the watch (birthday present from my wife so I didn't throw it out), and she got me an Orient Mako to replace it. Fine watch indeed.

I had the quartz movement crap out in a Tissot and the quote for repair was almost as much as a new watch. I think unless you have a high end watch its generally cheaper to get a new one than to repair major damage.

I originally thought that I might just replace it, but right now money is tight. My father in law used to just by another watch when the battery died.

In the interim, I revived my old Casio analog that is over 35 years old. Put a new battery in and it started up just fine.

If you are in the SF bay Area (south) the place is Brooks Jewelery in Santa Clara. He also has a few Kershaw, Case and Victronix knives there too.
