I have been itching to try crcklins after seeing something about them on TV. Having never tried them, and living in NY I would appreciate some guidance. Any links to where I might order some that are good would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ah, food of the redneck gods. Think thicker, chewier pork rinds. Particularly good with frosty adult beverages. Bigk6

Around here, it's a by-product of making lard. It's what's left after the lard has been rendered from fat. I've helped make lard at hog killings, but I've never been tempted to eat the cracklins. Some people grind them up and put them in cornbread. Fresh cracklins actually smell good, in a way.

lol, at 1st i thought he was speaking of "cracking" cocaine lol,

fresh cracklins in corn bread is good.

Make your own by rendering pork fat. The cracklings can then be used for flavouring especially in bread or cornbread, or polenta [cornmeal mush].

L. Richard has it right. They are wonderful in cornbread. You can't eat to much though...the arteries will start slammin' shut. Fried pork skin is something else.

The best "Cracklins" are from a wild pig you catch then fatten up then scrape then cook on an open grill until the skin is cracked and dry. I supposed you could do the same thing in the city if you could find a ham at the deli that has skin on it.

Hi All-

The idea of eating cracklins is interesting and all...but then I decided it would be much easier to infuse wet cement directly into my arteries.
