Cracks in bone handles

I've searched with little luck - maybe I'm searching with poor terminology - but looking for answer to question about bone handles. When shopping for knives I have seen many bone handled knives with cracks near or at a pin. Love the knives - looking at older traditional folders - but worried about the cracks. Should I be? And if so, is there a way to stabilize the cracks that would give added life to the bone handles?
Any help would be appreciated?

Most hobby shops carry a product called "zap a gap". It works great for that very thing.
