Craftsman 2 x 42 upgrades?

It seems that there are a lot of makers here that use the KMG, Bader, Wilton, Coote, etc grinders, and a lot of new makers using the Craftsman 2 x 42. Has anyone thought of or done any modifications? I have one, and have many ideas, but haven't had time to mess around with it. Here are some of my ideas

1) Remove parts of the housing (upper & lower) to expose the wheels.

2) Add pyroceram/mousepad etc to platen.

3) order some small wheels & bearings and make a better platen.

4) Fab a 1/2 steel base to mount unit on with an arm & rests to accept an 8" or 10" contact wheel and 72" belts.

5) If 4) is done, I would also have to add a belt drive & pulleys to adjust speed. This unit runs fast enough already.

From what I have researched on the "homemade" belt grinders made, the issues are usually alignment, tracking, and power. It seems to me that the alignment going to a 3 wheel would be 2/3 done, the tracking and belt adjustment is already built in, and the motor is almost 1hp. (I know, it's peak, not continuous) Anyway, what have you done, or thought of, and for the pros/engineers, what are the problems with the above?
