Hey real knifemakers, I'm looking for a grinder I can use for hobby level knife making and I've found two in my price range which I named in the title. The Porter Cable has more than twice the power but has shorter belts. What do you guys think would be better? Trying to stay under $200 if I can since I'm operating on an engineering student's budget.

2x42 is the standard starter.. belts are easily found and the longer the belt, the longer they wear. There are already lots of mods that have been proven with the Craftsman. It's what I use till I hone my skills better. It's fast as hell and makes you keep your attention focused.

Here is a thread on my first batch of knives I made on the Craftsman. Don't let the price fool you, great knives can be made on it.

Awesome! I suspected the longer belt size would be what I should go with. Thanks for the advice and those knives look pretty sweet!
