So in my retirement ive begun "rehab-ing tools as a hobby. Grandfatherbwas a wood workerbon woodenb4 mast sailing freight ships. Dad was a knife and axe guy. So lucky to have inherited their tools.
As an artist among other things I have become , frankly, an expert at cutting fresh wood, drying it in my hand built drying shed then artificially aging the new handles . I love having this ability and my next project is a double bit axe made by craftsman. There are no "ovals".
It simply says: CRAFTSMAN
3 1/2
M

On the 1/3 end of one side.

All I want to to ßknow is when it was made before I give it to the guy who is cutting all the necessary wood on my land for me as I am a 3x broken neck firefighter and can't do my fav chore which is chopping wood since my young days on the family farm.
So who has a date of manufacture for me,

Last reply and I will never come here again. It keeps asking ME to write responses. I know 15 year olds that can create a better site than this joke

Uh I think you are somewhat confused as to what the forum is asking of you. You somehow started a poll instead of a normal thread. Just need to watch where you put the clicky arrow.

I'm guessing the 90's based on the M. If it has green paint, I'll change my guess to the 60's or 70's.

That's a late 70's-80's axe, in this case the M stamped in this manor denotes Mann edge tool co as the company Sears sourced it from.

If the stamp was
=CRAFTSMAN=
= REG US TRADEMARK = M
That would denote Vaughan & Bushnell as the manufacturer.
Mostly found on hammers and vartypes of hatchets from at least the 50's all the way through 2012 when Craftsman was murdered by Sears CEO.

Hmmm, click thing, do you mean the button that clicks or the cursor the button moves?

Seriously...I all but lost my mind over it. I would get notice that a response was needed. Those were the words the screen with the clicks thing told me..."respond".
Now I could have read that wrong and it was talking about some chicken named Reed and her "pond" but I don't think so. Anyway...I came back just the same.

No paint. I dug it out of the remnants of an old ghost town/lumber mill town. Town died in the 40s so it likely came from either the following shingle mill (ended in 50s and it sounds like this head cant be that old) or someone threatened to throw it in the woods if it ever broke again qhen they were getting some easy scraps

To all those who chimed in, replied or generally put up with my tirade thanks. Having a 3rd broken neck has me on a boatload of pharmaceutical chemicals to regulate everything from my head to my heart to my guts and when my head goes south I lose my s&/+. I also have antergrade amnesia and had forgotten i was even here til my wife told me to go thru my texts, emails, etc to catch up on what I've been doing. Not whinjng...juat sayin sry I lost it & if I remember to come back I hope I remember to watch my mouth.
Be well.

3rd? Maybe stop doing whatever is breaking your neck. Although I heard the 4th one is free so that's a plus.
