I just received this knife after buying it off eBay. I've been after a Camillus 3-F for about two years but couldn't find one at a reasonable price. This Craftsman came up on my search as a B.I.N. for $21 so I pounced on it. I'm very pleased! It's made very well and has nice snap. To those in the know...is it a Craftsman-branded Camillus or is it an Imperial? Also, I noticed this model is not present at the Craftsman section at the Collectors-of-Schrade website. If you want to use my pictures there that would be OK with me.

I did. I saw a Camillus 3-F in the 2006 catalog and I think it is the same as the Craftsman I posted. I just wanted confirmation.

I don't know if Phil can confirm or not. Possibly another former Camillus employee can. Mr. Tom is no longer with us and I don't know what became of his archive collection. I did not receive copies of the Camillus Craftsman S-cards. Compare pin positions and blade profiles between the pictures, yours and the catalog. It most probably is Camillus. If it survives, I posted a scan of that Sears catalog page some time ago in this forum.

For those who want a link to the Camillus archive site with the catalogs...

Thanks Codger. I know it's not really that important but I was curious and I appreciate your input.

I wish I had a definitive answer for you. Sorry that I don't. When I needed to note the differences between the Camillus lockback and Schrade, I used my paint program to draw red lines from the pins, red lines from the start and end of the nail nick, bolster angles and the arch of the release inlet. That made the difference obvious. If you do that on your computer with those two pictures it should confirm for you. I am positive it isn't a Schrade and almost positive not a Imperial. My Sears catalogs are still packed up or I would repost that page for you. Alternately PM Phil Gibbs for his knowledge on this pattern.

Yes, it is a Camillus.
Based on an Imperial/Schrade pattern/tooling that we absorbed.

I have a related question regarding this general pattern. Here's a KA-BAR model 1189 that I bought in the mid 70's.

I've been told in the past by more than one person that they thought it may have been made by Camillus for KA-BAR. I'd love to know for sure.

Yes, it is Camillus made.
Camillus Pattern # 5762

We also made a larger Lock Back for Kabar using our 5764 Pattern; I think it was a Kabar 1179.
I learnt a lot trying to make those a thousand at a time!!

Phil, I have a few Craftsman knives and I would like to know if they are all Camillus or not. Model numbers are 95078, 95206, 95233, 95231, 94609. Thanks in advance.

I am afraid my retention of Sears sales #s sucks!
If you can post pics I should be able to answer :o

Thanks, Phil. I will make a record of them. Another question about the Imperial Frontier series. I have copies of the "S" cards for some but were all made by Camillus including the All-American and Diamondbrite series.

All-American

Diamondbrite

Camillus made all the "All-American" knives.
We did not make the "Diamondbrite".
