Anyone know what steel Camillus is using in the current contract knives with the wood handles and brass bolsters, made for Sears under the Craftsman name?

The package insert just says "a special analysis stainless steell, hardened to a rockwell of 56-59c"

The quality of this knife is really great and all 3 blades are razor sharp, but I would like to know the steel??

I haven't seen anything 100% yet, but I have been told it might be 420HC?

It's definately stainless, and does seem to "look" like the 420HC in my Buck knives, but I know that isn't "proof"

Anyone know for sure?

Maybe CAMCO (Tom) will tell us next time he checks in here, so continue to be patient if possible... :)

420HC SOUNDS most likely, as you can more cost efficiently blank blades from the rolled/coiled steel than some of the other steels like the 440 series. At least that is what I've been told.

But, you did say FOR SURE, and I am not. :(

The only thing I am sure of is that it is stainless and seems to be pretty good, is holding up well.

ps. sweet little blade in your avatar, Winston?

Thank you...
Yes, it is a Winston 8" Chefs knife he made for my wife. Beautiful.

Forum content.....Tom, are you able to help us out here?
