Hello,
New here. I picked up a Craftsman camp knife that looks to be in very good condition, except for a loose end cap where the bail attaches. Can anyone offer advice or direct me to info about disassembly and repairing this knife?
Thanks in advance!

I did a quick image search and the craftsman camp knife looks like a regular vintage boy scout style knife (knife, awl, can opener, bottle opener) with a bail. Some examples had the bail missing.

I'm not familiar with how these old school bails were put together, but it looks like it may be a hollow pivot. My question is whether there is a rod which goes all the way through which is peened on both ends, or if the sides of the bail are held in individually. If it's a brass rod which goes all the way through, then you should be able to peen it back to normal (as long as all of the brass on the outside is still there) relatively easily without disassembling the knife. If it's not like that, then I have no idea how to fix it.

I suppose it's possible that it could be a pivot which is solid in the middle with holes on both ends where the bail is peened into place. If that's the case then you might still be able to peen the one loose side back on without too much trouble.

In both of these scenarios, the biggest danger would be making it too tight by peening it too much. And if you're bad at peening then you may deform the head too much, thus weakening it.

If you post pictures of the problem, I can help you.

Yes, pictures are good.
