I have a knife stamped CRAFTSMAN USA that I purchased from Sears around 1972. The knife is identical to the Schrade Deer slayer. Any idea what years this knife pattern was made for sears? The sheath is in very good condition and the knife blade has a slight patina. I plan to bring it to the camp next week and hopefully put it to use. I am not a knife collector, I just seam to keep things a long time, especially if they are well made.

Welcome to the Schrade forum b2edhmep! Sears seemed to have bought the pattern very early in production, circa 1963-64, and kept purchasing it intermittently for quite some years. It was not a catalog item that I have found, but likely an in-store sales item only. They are sturdy well made knives. I used to have quite a few of them including one of the first for Sears, new in the box, marked with the Ted Williams trade name.

It was purchased in the store. This Sears had quite a large display case filled with knives. I remember after paying for the knife ,putting it on my belt and walking through the store with it. No one seemed to notice, my how times have changed.

Nice knives, b2 and Codger! Glad to see that one of you has one after many years. I get the feeling that the nice Ted Williams set has gone with the infamous scoundrels of a few weeks past. A darn shame. I would like to use this post to express my best wishes to all here for the Christmas Season.

You would be correct Tongueriver. All I have left of that one is the pictures.

I have one of these somewhere, my leather sheath has an arkansas stone with it.

I've never seen one of this pattern with a stone pocket sheath. Though this and a few other early Old Timer sheath knife patterns included a sharpening stone in the gift box. IIRC, the Uh patterns, 171UH, 153UH and 165UH, are the only ones I have seen with stone pocket sheaths. Oh, and the 165OT Shikari made for Norm Thompson. Please do post a picture of it?
