Craftsman grinder parts and NWG?

I'm building a NWG. I have a Craftsman 2x42. Could I use the tracking wheel and drive wheel off of a Craftsman on my NWG?

Any sources of wheels besides Beaumont and Mickley?

Thanks,
Jason

You could make it work. The spring in the tracking wheel is pretty light. Fine for a 42" woodworking sander, but for a 72" where you'll want a lot of tension you'll want a stronger spring to pull the belt taut.

Sunray wheels will make a polyurethane covered wheel that is keyed, 70 duro, and slightly radiused. A 4" drive wheel will be under $100, but I think they have a $100 minimum order.

I'd just want to use the wheel and bearings from the craftsman tracking assembly, mounted on a bolt on my NWG tracking assembly.

Don't kill your craftsman to make the nwg.

Either keep it and use it to make the new grinder, or sell it and use it to buy new wheels from Tracy.

Have a look, one recent thread - some body was happy to buy one for 125?

That would more than buy a new tracking wheel.

I just recently finished my NWG. Like you I also had a Craftsman 2X42. From experience, I'd keep the Craftsman. I have been surprised at how often I still use it for different tasks.

Sears sells replacement parts for the 2x42. Was thinking of buying extras, not killing my grinder to make another. Looking at around $60 for both wheels combined.

Check with Sear's before you buy,IIRC both the drive wheel and the tracking wheel have some wierd metric bore that makes it hard to match shafts and pulleys to.

If I remember correctly, the tracking wheel is 13mm and $24 and the drive wheel will is 1/2" and is $15. Both from sears. I have ordered a drive wheel to run my 2x72 but got rid of it after a few months. The tracking wheel was out of stock and they had no clue when they would be able to ship it to me so I canceled my order.
