Craftsman/ Ken Onion "work" knife

I found this little wonder on another forum to which I belong. The "work knife" as it's creatively named (even on the package) is a factory colab between Kershaw, Craftsman/Sears, and the famous Ken Onion! It features a 2.5 in AUS-6 blade, a zytel/kraton handle, and a surprisingly stout liner lock. The clip is in the shape of a hex wrench (reminds me of erector sets) and is a neat novelty. Fit and finish are exceptional especially for the retail....$25!!!!!! If you haven't seen these yet, they are at select Sears stores and available through the catalogue:

The only thing that I don't like about this little fella is that the red kraton insert is already starting to discolor a bit just from jean lint. It cleans up well enough, just looks a bit dingy in the mean time.
Get one while you can, another Vapor-like deal!

WHOA!! Guess I'll be goin' to tool central on tomorrow.

Thanks for the head's up on this, Matt!

All the best,
Mike U.

That's what I call a workknife. I want one. Now all I have to do is find out where I can get one in Oz - although the little ozzie dollar is up so I might be able to order one from the US.

The ad says AUS-8A.

Could you describe the clip in more detail. Can it be used as a wrench?

Holy crap. Too bad I bought too many other things last week.
Thanks for the post though. I'll get around to going and getting one.

Unfortunately, the ad is incorrect. It says stamped on the blade that it is AUS-6...not bad for the price/function though. As far as the clip goes, it looks like an erector set wrench bent into a clip with the jaws near the pivot(top) and the circular portion near the butt of the knife...however it's not a functional wrench. If anyone else picks one up, maybe they could post a pick. I'll cruise the net for one.

Personally, I'm glad to see the Sears / Kershaw / Onion collaboration. From a "tool" standpoint, I love an assisted opener, and I have carried an Avalanche in my weekend warrior toolbelt for quite some time.

The broader issue I struggle with is this. Will collaborations like this (or WalMart's limited marketing of SpeedSafes) gain widespread acceptance for assisted openers? (Right or wrong, as things stand now I have to admit I'd feel more comfortable possessing an assisted opener stamped "SEARS" should I encounter a LEO or inadvertently trigger a metal detector.) Or will it backfire? Imagine the "switchblade" headline of the article reporting on the kid busted at school with his dad's Sear's assisted opener, or the next Sheryl Crow song taking a poke at Sear's (or Walmart again - remember the gun flap) for selling "switchblades." I apologize in advance if these remarks piss anyone off, but I'd like to know what people think.

I don't think that this knife is assisted-opening, I wish it was. Oh, but the Scallion is, I see what you're saying.

Picked up the last one from my sears on the way home today.

The Clip. I was supprised when I saw it.

Sorry about the quality. It's a camcorder camera combo.

Thanks for the pictures. They're not bad at all -- at least they show that clip! It's an advertising gimmick, to remind you of Craftsman tools, that's all. Very nice little knife. If we have to find knives in hardware stores, better this than flimsy Spyderclones.

It is a nice knife. I have one too. But it is not assisted opening. It is just a normal one hand operation thumb stud liner lock with a blade that has a lot of belly and Aus6a steel. Not Aus8a like the adds say.

Funny thing is the package at the store says aus8 too.

I guess for the price aus6 is good enough :)

I really like the looks of it and would like to finally have a true beater to take to work.
