Snagged this little gem from the big auction site. It's a Camillus made junior Cattle Knife. 3 3/8" closed.

The clip and pen blades have half stops. The swedges on the blades are quite elegant. Blades are really hard to shoot.

No brass on this knife. It's pretty darned peachy! :)

When were these made?

The jigged bone handles are very very nice.

Post WWII. The Sta-Sharp branding was phased out not long after the war. Craftsman was introduced on pocket cutlery in about 1941 by Baer and his Ulster cutlery and to my knowledge not used at that time on Camillus supplied pocket cutlery. At that time Camillus was using Dunlap, Sta-Sharp and Kwik-Kut. So I would say probably as late as 1949 or so. I would have to dig out my Sears catalogs to be more specific as to the year.

Thanks for the info Michael.

What a lovely knife.

I'd love to own some oldies, but have no faith in Ebay, no knowledge to pic good ones, and no money to buy them, even if the the first two were not the case!

The Craftsman (and other Sears marks) remain a fertile field for picking up some excellent older knives for not much outlay. But it is true that you generally need to know more about them then the eBay sellers and many other buyers. And be willing to read the knives not the text that accompanies them. The same is true of other brandings made by Camillus/Schrade/Ulster. Oftentimes the SFOs (special factory orders) have upscale details over the regular production items.
