I have a question for the history buffs. I have a fixed blade (Hunting style) knife that I have owned for more than 60 years. Not a fake! The item in question is stamped Crandall Cutlery Co, Bradford, Pa. It has a 5-5/8" blade with plain wood handle (possibly walnut) with brass pins. I would upload a photo, but it seems I need to do that from a URL and don't see how to upload from my PC...
What I know so far: Crandall Cutlery co was formed in the last 1800s and purchased by what is now W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Co in 1911 (after the marriage of the two families. That of course dates the knife that was given to me in 1958 and was old looking at the time. There seems to be little more info about Crandall Cutlery co. That includes my contact with current W.R. Case Co. That resulted in very little additional information about Crandall. I have researched various online sale forums and have seen several Crandall knives either active or sold. However, I every case, the Crandall knives being sold were folding variety. I have not found any examples of Crandall fixed blade knives.
My questions to the forum. Did Crandall manufacture and sell fixed blade hunting knives? If so, how large a part of their business was it? Is this "One of a Kind", possibly a sample product that was never manufactured or sold? Can anyone point me to another example of a Crandall fixed blade hunting style knife, either on a sale site or in a museum or collection?
Thanks
