Crane hook - how to make a sturdy knife?

Looking good! But why bother with an unknown grade steel that is not originally meant for cutlery when you could get proper cutlery steel along with the specific heat threat procedure instead of guessing? That shop of yours seems equipped with all the gadgets a knifemaker might ever want (sans a propper countershink for the lanyard hole though).

My guess is, because he can!

Crane hook would need to resist strain and shock, but wouldn't need to be all that high on the Rockwell scale. Makes for tough knives that don't care if they bounce off a wood knot or hit a bone during game prep.
