I just got my first deep scratch on my Sebenza's handle. Crap, Crap, Crap!

How do I get that scratch out without ruining the rest of the handle now?

Sometimes those scratches can turn out to be rubs or marks on the TI. I have had luck with Gun-scrubber removing the surface marks. If it in fact penetrates the surface (the mark or scratch). I would send it to CR.
On the other hand it is broken in now, I know that is hard on a new knife, but now it is gonna get used more and that can be a good thing :D

You might try a Scotch-Brite pad. If it doesn't work, CRK will re-finish it for a nominal charge. On the other hand, some of these marks just add "character".

WOULD CR send me a loaner until mine is refurbished? :D
I just got this knife a very short time ago and hate to send it away so soon. I'll try some of that gun scrubber, but I don't think I want to try a Scotch-Brite pad. Actually, I guess that scratch does add character to the knife, but just isn't as eye appealing.
That's the tough part about owning an expensive tool (noticed how I said tool?), those little things that keep them from remaining new.

I still wish that scratch weren't there! :(

You say "deep scratch," I say "character." Knives are supposed to get scratched. ;)

Even higher end priced knives get beat up! Just it hurts a little more when that happens with a more expensive knife.

From the title I thought it had been stolen!!!

Look at it this way, now you won't feel so bad when you get the second scratch. Use it, use it hard!

The first scratch is the most painful. Now that is what makes it "your knife". No one else has a scratch like that. But seriously, try not to let it bother you. Use for a while and then send it in for a refub. Sometimes by trying to take out the scratch you will make it look worse. Chris makes these knives to work and get scratched. Enjoy it now. It's kind of like when you get the first scratch on a new car. The next one won't hurt nearly as bad.;)

Maybe NOW you will be a little bit more careful with your Sebenza, 'eh, or did it scratch itself while you were asleep?..

Shoulda seen the look on my face the first week I got brave enough to carry my Sebbie at work and managed to coat my blade with grey and orange surveying paint! I now have one of the few Sebbies with a pimpy fresh mirror polished blade. At first I hated it, but....I'm not the tactical hidey-out-type anyways, and now I figure that it's these lil' scratches, dings, and marks that give a knife true character. Anyways, I hope you can get yours refurbished soon or learn to love the evolving character.;) have a good 'un!

Nope, a friend of mine here dropped it this morning onto a tool box. :(

That's what I get for letting others play with it!

If the handle was kraton, it could get ripped or worn off. If it was wood or stag or plastic, it could crack and break off. The Sebenza has metal slabs that are close to indestructible. That scratch just shows how potentially devastating damage to another knife is only a memory on your Sebenza.

BrassKnuckles,

YOU didn't even get to put the 1st scratch on YOUR knife? Damn, that IS VERY BAD mojo!. You had best just write-off that Sebenza, and send it to me for disposal, since you REALLY don't need any bad mojo.:D.

BTW...That DOES really suck, about the damage to your knife. I'm sorry that had to happen.:(.

Did you buy it to look at, or use?
It's going to get scratches. Lots of them. The handles scratch easily. You'll be sending it back every other week, if a scratch bothers you, in which case you've got the wrong knife:(

I found my old Benchmade Monarch lockback in the toolbox last week. It's about the same size as a large Sebenza, but has Kraton handles. They don't show scratches. I'll trade you:p

I like you was upset when I got my first scratch on my Sebenza. It really bugged me, and did not want to send it in, and be without it so I tried cleaning it with different things, and still showed. And then I got to thinking that the decorated models are not beadblasted only on the back slab so I steelwooled it smooth, and wetsanded it down with 800 grit, and finished off with Flitz. It came out a gray tone, but I liked it. It is a little slippery like some say, but like I said the back slab is still beadblasted, and the knife is NOT slippery in my hand. And now I have not had a scratch show since on the front slab. I even put an icon(Eagle in sterling silver) in the pilot hole on the slab, and has become my own decorated Sebenza, and others say it looks good.

Just food for thought...

Good for you. Benza's where ment to be used, scratched, and make you feel like you got what you paid for. In a few years, send it back to Chris Reeve with a $25 doller check and have him pretty it up for you.

i carried mine with my keys, spare change, and other assorted doodads. the first few scratches were indeed hard to adjust to, but, after a couple of weeks the slabs had taken on what i can best describe as a 'stonewash appearance' that wasn't at all unpleasant to look at.

in fact, if i ever replace the one i had, i dont think i'll sweat the first new scratch at all.

Mine gets carried in the same pocket as my other EDC, usuallu a small SAK, and my keys will often get stuck in there too. My sebbie is quite scratched in the scales, don't worry using the knife only makes you appreciate it more.
Take care,
Chad
