Took the family to Crater Lake this weekend. We took 58 out of town and stopped at the Brewer's Union Local 180 in Oakridge--a great Brewpub in the English tradition.

Slept that night at a campground by Crescent Lake. Fire ban was in full effect, so breakfast that morning was a challenge.

Drove up to Crater Lake after breakfast Sat morning. First view:

The size of this thing is truly astounding.

These little guys were everywhere:

I still have tiny little teeth marks in my wallet where one snuck up on me and tried to lift it....

Perched above the crater is Mt Scott. At 9000 ft or so, it's the highest point in the park:

We tried hiking it....

Budding naturalists:

Pics along the trail:

The 11 we took along was well worth it--that little knife prepped food, opened packages, whittled spears for defending against bears and roasting marshmallows, opened bottles, posed for photos, you name it. Can't say enough good things about it!

Thanks for coming along!

^THAT is both Awesome and rather disheartening... I don't like seeing "wildlife" so acclimated to human encroachment. Though they are just making the best of the situation we made for them.

Great pics, fantastic looking area to hike/camp.

Looks like a good time man. Beautiful area, thanks for sharing.

Great pics of what looks like a great trip. Love that you took along a hand-crank coffee grinder. That's dedication.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen! And Dunkem--there's just nothing like a fresh pot of coffee when your all cold and stiff and bleary.... I think I almost cried I was so happy to drink that first cup! I should have had pics of that grinder to post in the cast iron thread, as well as the Dutch oven my wife made biscuits in Sunday morning, but our phones ran out of power before then.... Oh well, some memories are best kept as just that--memories.

Nice pics, we are planing a trip out to crater lake for next summer. It was closed around beckerwest gathering this past spring
.

Golden Mantle Ground Squirrel ? If so, they are called "Mini Bears" by some for the risk they present to anything even faintly salty or any foodstuff. To get at such things, they will chew through the side of a pack in seconds.

What a great time you all appear to have had....... Gotta do Crater Lake sometime...... Am planning some hunting in that general area in a year or two so, maybe then..... Thanks for the pix and letting us meet your awfully cute kids......
