Crawford Kasper Folder vs. Crawford New Shark

I have not had the chance to handle the New Shark, but I like the sleeker lines that it has. The Kasper is a really nice knife, but I am just not that pleased with the look.

I like both of them a lot. I prefer the extremely solid and secure grip of the KFF, but I like the slimmer line of the Shark. When I get my finances straightened out I am going to have Pat build me a Shark with a much deeper finger notch.

Since your dealing with a Crawford, you are getting one of the best knives going. The Shark is more of all around kind of knife. It will do many tasks well. The KFF was designed as a defensive folder. It will do other jobs, but they won't be the intent of the design.

Make life easy and get both!:D

I've got a Crawford shark just like the pic on Crawford's website (black linen micarta/154CM) that is into its 2nd year of service. For many months, this was the only knife I carried. Did a review - will see if i can dig it up from the archives. I've also had the opportunity to play with the Crawford KFF in several styles that forumite Keninshiro used to own.

Both are superbly usable folders. Tough and made to last. They both handle great and have very well designed handles which do a great job of keeping your fingers off the sharp bits when you have to do exciting things with your knife. I also like the way the liners are slightly recessed inside the handle to prevent accidental unlocking.

Personally, I prefer the sleeker look of the Shark but thats just me speaking. Lots of my knife buddies love the way the KFF looks (Keninshiro had no trouble selling his, I'll bet). On the Shark, the one thing i would change would be to smooth out the very sharply pointed serrations on the thumb ramp. Wears out the sheath and rips up my thumb - I ended up sanding it down for comfort. If I had another $400 to spend, I'd buy another one. I'd put the Shark way up there with my other favourite: Carson Model 4.
