Crawford/Kasper, Pro or Org.?

I prefer the original--no real reason except that I think it looks better than the pro.

And welcome to the forums.

the crawford KFF is slightly thinner and lighter than the CRKT version (at least mine is, a KFF ti handles) and the workmanship is 20X the CRKT, though the CRKT KFF is a very accurate rendition of the crawford, the crawford has better steel also (ATS34 vs AUS6) and the recessed liner lock doesnt need the LAWK's like the CRKT has. is it worth 10X the $??? i guess to me it was, i bought a CRKT KFF, and liked it so much i got a crawford a few weeks later, traded a MT mini socom tanto, a signature model, and a BM stryker prototype and $100 to the infamous "JAXURMAN", was used, scuffed up some, sent it in to pat to re-BB the thing , and he did that, rebuilt the lock, re-signed the blade, all for $27 including shipping(AND threw in a a belt sheath, i woulda paid $27 for that, lol)!! it now looks like a new knife. so i can speak w/some knowledge on the matter, pat stands behind his stuff 110%, he owed me nothing imho since i didnt buy the knife from him. ya also should look at the perfigo/persico models, a longer bladed slimmer KFF (kinda) a new model pats just releasing - they run about $400 and up, up, up, depending on what ya want. but , imho, ya cant do bETTER than pat on a custom, some may EQUAL him, but few (if any) BETTER him.

so, FWIW, i would get the crawford if ya have the cash, if not, the CRKT will do a heckuva job, for the $$, but equall to a crawford?

NOT!!!

hmmmmmm, i think ya meant the original CRKT mod or the pro model(oooooooppppppsssssss), i would get the pro myself, just looks cooler, though exactly the same width/weight/etc, i thought they would be lighter w/the holes in the handle, but no they arent.

either one is good though, but i think the pro also has better steel in blade (AUS6 vs AUS8, i think)

I don't like the look of the Professional Model so I prefer the 'standard' model.

@SIFU1A: Are sure regarding the (same) weight?

IF I had 2 choose between the 2, I'd go with the PRO. The handle is slimmer, because of the single liner, as opposed to the double liner on the original. And, most importantly, AUS 8 steel goes a LOOONG way. It's a little trickier to carry, because of the silver color of the handle (I nicknamed my CRKT Pro large "Dr. Evil", the small "Mini-Me" :D ), but the fact that it's slimmer and the steel has a higher carbon content makes it a better choice than the original. A very solid performer as a utility, plus has the "comfort" of a true SD knife.

Mind you, however, I have 4 of the original version, and simply love them to death!! The design is hard to beat, and the product is simply outstanding. but if you can't have both, go with the PRO.

I got the original, but then again, the pro wasn't available when I got mine. If I were buying one now, I would probably go with the pro because of the better steel. Still can't make up my mind as to which one looks better. I don't think you will be disappointed with either one.

I have a small pro. It feels nice in the hand and rides pretty well in the pocket. To top it all off, it has better steel. I'd go pro for the steel, slimmer profile, and the fact that I think it looks cooler.

Another vote for the Pro, for the reasons mentioned. I prefer the large version - it is one of the most comfortable knives that I own.

A definite thumbs up for the Pro from me! I like the feel of the aluminum handles and the better steel makes it even more appealing. I think it just looks nicer too.

I clip one to my back pocket sometimes...nice knife...

It’s personal preference, but I like the metal handle of the Pro model, but that goes back to the personal preference thing and I like metal handles in general. Some people don’t like metal handles because they say that they can become slippery when wet, but I have several other metal handled knives that I don’t have the problem with – but YMMV.

That being said, if it came down to it and you can afford it, get the original. Like it was said above, you really can’t compare the CRKT version to the original handmade. It looks basically the same, but they are not. And that could be said about any handmade vs. production collaboration.

I had to get one and I went with the Pro. I have enough black plastic handled knives without getting another in that configuration. Also, I think the drilled out metal handles look classy (as opposed to dull on the orig). It reminds me of another Crawford design, which CRKT reproduced as their Point Guard.

Have to agree about the incredible form fitting handle design both models share. I also continue to find the silky smooth action from the teflon washers very pleasing indeed.

Another vote for the Pro! But I'm sure you'll love whichever one you get.

The Professional series do have an upgraded steel although the AUS-6M used in the originals is not bad. It takes a razor edge just doesn't hold it as long as the AUS-8. I am not really fond of the aluminum handles on the Pro because they are a bit shiny for me. The blacked out Pro series is another thing though. I like the all black hardware and blade on this one. I just picked up a custom version of the large with black blade and full black micarta grips. I also just got a Professional Black large and the resembleance is striking. I believe the parts would almost be interchangeable!

For the extra money I believe you get a great deal with the Professional models.

Thanx, for the input everyone, I think I'm going with the CRKT Pro.
I have the CRKT Commander which is a similiar design, but that thing is heavy, how much will 1oz. difference be in pocket feel? I'm really used to my AFCK as a EDC, which is noticeably lighter.

The Pro wins! Yay! Justice has been served.

They do a black version?! Veeery interesting. I find the shiny handle and especially the bead blasted clip indiscreet, a black version doesn't appeal to me right now but I DO need (need, mind you) a full size version to complement the smaller one...

Can't comment on the big 'un, but the smaller one is not even noticeable in the pocket.

What is the wound in yr avatar by the way?

Kallisti.

The wound in the avatar, is something I recieved when someone decided to bring a knife to a fist fight(or a fist to a knife fight). I ended up stuck 3 times once in the stomach, once in the sideribs(pic)and the knife ended up 7/8 of the way through my left elbow, unlocked I might add. Fortunetly for me it was some piece-o-crap, something you'd see inline at the liquer store. Somehow I decided that night not to carry(dont know why?) but i didnt, but after thinking about it several times and even though I was very very lucky, It was a good thing I wasnt carrying.

3rdwound

Wow - that's intense. Glad it wasn't worse. From your post it sounds like you were into knives before the attack also. Is that the case?
