I just received my third Crawford Kasper. All three are of the large variety. One has stag overlays on the ti handles and is satin finishes frame and blade. This is one more handful of knife! The other two are both titanium frames with one being anodized blue then bead blasted and has a Devon Thomas spirograph damascus blade. The one I got today is going to be my pocket carry knife for a while. This one has a standard bead blast ti frame with a satin finished ATS-34 blade. Lockup is tight on all three with no blade play in any of them. I know that Pat had trouble at one time with some knives having the liner lock come over releasing the blade. The liner lock is inlaid and pinned with three pins at the rear so it ain't going nowhere except where its suppose to go!

I really like the size of these knives as they are relatively big but at the same time they are thin enough as to not print when you carry them advertising a big knife. Pat also puts these together to stay together. I like the steel spacer holdind the handles apart. There is no flex in these knives to allow the liner to come closed prematurly. Clip allows for deep pocket carry and the knives are slick as butter to open! All in all I am satisfied even if I do have three of them!
Can't go wrong with a Crawford!

Art,

I agree completely. I have a blasted Ti KFF, and it's been my daily buddy for over a year now. What I like is how the titanium "wears"; a sort of faded gunmetal gray finish that is very appealing to me. And yes, it is extremely smooth to open!

For such a large knife, it also carries very well. I've worn this knife with shorts, jeans, dress pants, even sweats, and have never experienced any discomfort at all. And I'm a small dude! (Trying to get bigger by drinking mass quantities of beer

) I DID scratch the clip though, by thoughtlessly riding my son's skateboard at the local skatepark and wiping out...Hmmm, wonder if Pat or Wes would fix it for me. Can't stand to be without my KFF for even one day though!

Which brings me to my next point. Like you sir, I am in dire need of more than just one KFF. I want a dressy one. That one with the stag overlays that you have; I think I've seen one like it at Pat's table at a knife show; One sweet knife! So my New Year's resoulution is this:

BUY A NEW CRAWFORD KFF!

Now see what you did??

PS- What's even cooler is that there's the CRKT version of the KFF, and there's training models of the KFF. I have the deluxe model; check it out at www.trainingblades.com

I've used two CRKT KFFs as my daily carries for several months now and they've held up extremely well. Plus, I finally got around to buying two more CRKT KFFs and turned them into trainers by filing off and rounding over the edges and tips. They're perfect because they allow you to practice scenarios as close to reality as possible- right from the clipped position in your pocket.

I like my CRKT KFFs so much that I am seriously considering getting one of Pat Crawford's fancy customs. After all, a man deserves a little beauty in his life

Yep,
That stag handled Kasper is very nice. Satin finished frame and blade along with some fairly smooth stag make for a real handfull. Only problem is the lack of a clip. Still thinking about having it retrofitted with a short clip so as to not mess with the stag.

The more I carry this Kasper the more I appreciate it. The large size of blade in a thin, no print handle that is strong to boot can't be beat. I took the newest one apart and cleaned up the inside and applied Tuff-Glide. A smooth opener just got smoother! It feels like its sliding on glass.

Fellas you won't go wrong with the custom version. Whether fancy or plain these are some more knives!

Hi Art,

I have never owned a Crawford knife before, but the Kasper looks like it has about the best combination of good grip and strong blade.

One question, is the blade double ground? If not, does the handle store it sufficiently in closed position to allow for such an option?

I just wonder if it can be had with a Talonite blade, and a Rolling Lock or frame lock(liner lock failure is a big concern of mine)...if so, I may order it in a few months.

Hi Adamant,
I have three of these boogers and had another one that I traded last year. All three exhibited secure lockup since the lock is inlaid and pinned at the rear with three pins. You will not accidently disengage this lock as it is up in the frame. The back edge is hollow ground but not sharpened. The handle will not accomodate a sharp top edge.
Not sure about talonite or the rollin lock but if you call Pat I am sure if he can do it he will!

If you are looking for a double edge folder I have a Bob Dozier Folding Dagger that is 'da bomb! This has a sharp double edge along with Bob's tab lock system where the liner secures the blade all the way across the back edge. Talk about strong.......! Bob is a great fella to deal with. His knives are second to none and he uses D-2 which is a great steel.

Hi Art, Thanks for your explanation...

Saw the Dozier dagger before, but I am concerned that the handle shape appears to lack grip if I ever need it for self-defence.

I probably will get a Kasper in a few months time...when my anti-knife girlfriend forgets how much I spent on knives in the past 4 months...

I own:

Elishewitz Prodigy Monolock- $400
Spyderco Bob Lum folder- $150
MOD CQD- $240
Bud Nealy Small Kwaito, Mini Wortac (Neck)- $295, $175
Emerson La Griffe- $50
Will be receiving A 14" Jerry Hossom Bowie in CPM-3V by Feb- approx $700 w/ tooled leather sheath

I'm new to knives...only started 6 months ago...so I don't really know that much...but if anyone is interested, I can give some brief, albeit inexperienced comments on what I own

My wish list for next year:

Kasper-Talonite-Rolling lock (alternatively a talonite carnivore, if the Kasper is not possible)
Custom Fred Perrin large La Griffe tanto
Jerry Hossom Espada
David Broadwell MLR Tac Sub-hilt
A Microtech OTF auto
Something Talonite, and fixed bladed- either from Tom Mayo or Rob Simonich

An ambitious list for my limited finances, but hopefully I can afford them + get GF's 'permission' for about half of them...

Adamant,
From the knives you have listed there, you know more about knives than you give yourself credit for! All great knives. Your wish list is also full of great knives. The Dozier Dagger is really easy to grip. Bob builds the handle slabs out of the thickest titanium I've seen for a knife. Actually with the symmetrical grip it is easier to hold onto than it looks. May just be me but it fits/locks in my hand with ease.

I bought my first custom Crawford mini-Kasper last Fall, a micarta with satin finish. It was a beauty and I began carrying it every day to supplant my regular Spyderco Delica. Now, I just took delivery of a real beauty that Pat made up for me. It's got a very nice Mastodon tusk handle! Nicely bladed and jeweled. It's my carry when wearing business dress--suits, etc. I can't say enough about Crawford's mini-Kaspers. Not too big as to be a clunky carry, but big enough to represent a substantial weapon out of the pocket.

FYI, I would recommend you add a Greg Lightfoot Pit Bull to your collection as a mid-sized combat fixed blade. I just bought one and it's an amazing piece of work!
