Bats are pretty cool and this is an awesome looking bat in my opinion. I wish I could have one as a pet/animal friend, truly awesome.

Also if someone does find me a bat like this, I will brush him diligently.

I've never heard anyone having a bat as a pet. If you're serious about getting one, do lots and lots of reading before you get one. You don't want any unexpected surprises with an animal. Good Luck.

I like bats too. We have LOTS of them on our farm in West Virginia. They're cool little critters. I've never considered keeping one as a pet- they're busy doing God's work- waging war on bugs at night. Every bug they eat is one less bug that can bite me. They are very cute - like little mice with wings. I love watching them hunt. The only drawback to bats is that they like to poop a lot. A large population of bats in your attic or barn can generate quite a lot of guano- that builds up over time and makes an awful mess/ stink. Not pleasant to clean up at all.

I don't think it'll happen that I own one, just browsing pictures it comes up often that captive bats don't live very long.

Bats are in danger of becoming extinct. They have a contagious fungal disease called white nose. Due to their habit of living in colonies it's spreading rapidly. I've hardly seen any around our lights at night this past summer.

I didn't see any bats this summer at all. And we usually do. We did start seeing them when it started to cool off. It was so wonderful to see them again.

I have helped a couple that have been injured. Rabies is a real problem with them. It seems that the African Fruit Bat is the vector for Ebola and Marsburg viruses. I enjoy watching them at night.
