crazy crow blackhawk

It is a cast hawk. Maybe one of the experts can chime in, but from what I read, a forged hawk will be stronger.

Excellent hawks - they will take a lot of abuse and the head is well supported. I think they are made in Canada. The casting is a big rough in places but nothing that affects function - could be polished up if you want.

thanks. i was worried that they were made by the chi-coms. nice to know their made in canada.
i can't decide if i want the blackhawk or the 'mini' hawk.
i'm planning on removing the paint, rust bluing it, re-profiling the blade, staining the handle, etc...

Apparently made by a Canadian company called N&W but I can't find it.;-(

Robin

Steel is an alloy, iron and carbon. All steel starts out cast, some in ingots and most cast in continuous bars which are hot or cold rolled into structural steel , difference in say 'hawk heads is the ability to manipulate and heat treat bars. Cast heads are just that, cast into a form, usually with low carbon content materials because carbon inhibits welding. Although some heads are powdered ore, heated and pressed into a form under high pressure. And then there is drop-forging, which is heated material dropped into a die and it gradually compresses it into shape, sorry, ramblings from an old burnout.......Randy

Crazy Crow sells your contact info, I ordered some knife blades from them once and then started getting letters and phone calls from Indian charities, didnt take long to figure that out since Crazy Crow is the only business I've ever dealt with that sells Indian items. I called them and asked them about it, they wouldnt confirm they sold contact info but they didnt deny it either. I havent done business with them since.

stay away from the mini - 11 oz head weight doesn't stick well.
when I was doing rendezvous' & SCA, the blackhawk was pretty popular for throwing. so was the "custom". Both are good value, but you will end up on a couple of mailing lists.
