Okay, so I was looking at an executive. I love the classic, but even I have to admit it is sometimes a little small. The executive is a very nice edc, but the price is wild. For what a executive runs, I can buy a super tinker. But I don't want something as big as a super tinker. I like keyring size.

Is it just me, or is 28 to 30 dollars a lot for the executive?

That's a lot for a 74mm sak.

Carl.

Hmm from what I see on my favorite knife site- the Executive is $25, the Rambler is $19, and the Classic is $14 (without shipping)
I guess for every couple of tools added, the price goes up around $5
Is it worth it? I don't know - depends on how often you need to peel an orange :D

I'll keep a look out for a cheap one and if I find it I'll pick it up for you Carl.

Yes, it is a lot. I just did a search on some Dutch webshops and prices vary quite a bit. The most expensive webshop that I found, sells them for 29 euros (~39 USD). The least expensive webshop sells them for 23 euros (~31 USD). A Huntsman is usually sold for around 25 euros.

They are expensive but now that I have one I don't want to be without one. The Ambassador is also a great sak I just wish that it came in a sd version.

The Executive and the Compact are both pretty premium priced compared to like models. That's just the way it is.

If it makes you feel any better, you can pretty easily find a used Executive on a popular auction site for cheap. I want a Compact, and finding a bargain on one of those has proven to be more difficult for me.

The Executive is an awesome gentleman's folder, however. It's one of my top five essential SAKs for sure.

Well, that´s really a high price for that tool. I got mine for roundabout 13 € (~ 17,48 $) at a hardware store here in my hometown. Maybe you should look for other offers. That´s really a lot of money for this one.

Kind regards

That's a nice price. Unfortunately it quite hard to find a store in my area that sells Victorinox SAKs. One of the main outdoor stores sells Wenger and hardware stores don't sell SAKs at all.

I bought mine brand new a few years ago for 20 euros and bought two of them. On one hand it's a lot of money for the tool, on the other hand it's a tool that lasts a long time, so actually I'm fine with it. :-)

I'm having a compact made with custom scales ect for less then I could buy a normal Vic one.

Hi Carl... you better buy an Ambassador than executive... its more afforable and have about the same tools like the classic with nice larger blade and scissor... i mod the tip of the nile file to be a flat screwdriver easily... so its like a 74mm classic... ever since i put one on my flashdisk i never went back to classic...

i personally prefer ambassador than executive since its lighter and doent have any redundantcy... and it doest have the premium price tag...

try it, and you'll LOVE it..

For reasons I don't pretend to understand, used Executives tend to be cheaper than used Ambassadors. It's true that brand new Ambassadors are cheaper than new Executives, however. I'll go ahead and guess that more Executives have been sold, making used supply higher.

I'm not arguing that the Ambassador isn't the bee's knees or anything. I'm sure it is. I'd love to get one, but only if I find a screaming good deal on a used one, since I already own so many SAKs, including two Executives.

Carl, keep an eye out at flea markets. I've found lots of SAK's and given them away as gifts. I found an Executive and it sits on my big key chain, missing the shield. 3 bucks at Roots flea market in Lancaster.

This is from SAKWiki.com:

The Executive is one of the few Swiss Army Knives used on the television show MacGyver which aired from 1985 to 1992 that can be positively identified thanks to the distinctive appearance of the orange peeler. For instance, episode fourteen of the first season had a scene in which the star of the show uses the orange peeler of an executive to pry the lids off of four tubes of acid that were part of a bomb. The opening credits for each show following the first season included a portion of this footage.

That's Hollywood, baby! You're dancing with the stars!
