Crazy Glue as a horn handle sealant?

Ok, experts. Would crazy glue work well as a sealant for horn handles to prevent cracking as well as giving the handle a very polished look after some light buffing?

How many layers would you put on?

Thanks in advance for your answeres.

Harry,

I'm assuming you saw the article in Blade, September, 2000, page 42? (Too much of a coincidence for you not to have.)

If not, someone with a scanner can perhaps send it online to you.

Let me know, worst case I'll make a copy at work and send it via snail mail.

I haven't seen it either - is there mention of Scott Slobodian? (I think that's how he finishes his handles on his blades.)

Thanks,Blues. I haven't seen the September Blade issue yet, but will run down to the bookstore tomorrow to check it out. The sealant idea is something that I used to do with cast porcelain sculptures and was thinking that something similar could be done with the horn handles of khukuris. May also work with wood handles but would require a different approach.

There are adhesives that are designed to handle vibrations, I would think they would be optimal for handle repairs. Check out the Sikaflex products. They are online, you can simply drop them an email :

Thanks, Cliff. I'll take a look at this also.

Blues, got the September 2000 Blade mag and the article suggests much the same as I had been thinking about doing with one blem repaired handle.

Uncle Bill, I think I will be doing one khukuri each way and then comparing the results. Will report back once this is done and I have had a chance to put both khukuris through their paces to see how this holds up.

Harry,

Glad to be of help.

Uncle, didn't mean to ignore you, but I just got back online after my monitor bit the dust last night.

I'll let Harry paraphrase the procedure since it was something I glossed over after I read how much work (patience) was involved.
