What if someone bought an Endura 4 with blue scales, and an Endura 4 trainer (which has red scales) and switched the scales? I have always wondered why both Spyderco and Benchmade made trainers with red scales, because I always see prop/ training guns that are blue, not red. Anyways, I think it would be cool to have red, Spyderco made scales on a knife that doesn't come with them. Anyone ever thought about this? Anyone agree or disagree with me?

I had thought of this years ago for my Endura 4, because of the overly-tactical look of black scales. What I really wanted was an orange E4, but it wasn't made yet. I later switched out the scales of a black Enudra 4 and a BRG Endura 4 w/ZDP-189. Love the look, and the ease of sharpening VG-10, with the green scales. I traded the black-FRN-scaled ZDP-189 E4 later. The other member got a hybrid E4 he wanted, and I got the hybrid* I wanted.

For the cost of the two Endura 4's, you can do the switch, just make sure you keep the blade and hardware (lockbar & other parts) together.

If you can find the E4 with the white FRN scales, you can dye them red (or any pretty much other color) with RIT dye. Now that Spyderco makes the E4 in so many colors, there's probably another color that would work in place of red. Personally, I'd like to see a yellow-FRN-scaled E4, or better yet, an E4 with "Stay-Glo" scales.

*my wife calls it my "Franken-Knife".

I swapped the purple scales off a endura vg10 onto a zdp endura. way cooler now haha.
oh yeah, just swap the scales, dont change the lockbars!!!

I swapped the blades in a G-10 X VG 10 Endura with a FRN X ZDP 189 Endura. It worked fine.
