when I’m not grinding in my shop, you’ll typically catch me outside trail running. Running hundred mile ultramarathons has taught me that I can truly achieve anything if I stick to it, do the work and stay focused no matter how much the plan diverts or how bad the leg hurts. In these races, a deeply respected outcome is the “DFL” which stands for Dead F*kn Last. This runner usually barely makes the 36 hour cutoff and for one reason or another had the highest odds against them of finishing. As I enter into my sixth hundred miler and third running of the Crazy Mountain 100 in Montana with over 22,000 feet of vertical climb, it is my distinct pleasure to forge the official DFL award knife for this years race. That runner will receive an emotional standing ovation as they are given their finishers buckle and this knife as a token of true grit. Race is July 25th. Woohoo!!
