Can I just use the UF rods to create the microbevel? Also, should the UF rods be used on the high vandium steels or use strop with diamond paste?

Sure you can and it's no problem to use... Works fine on my 10v blade any how :)

With any steels I have with vanadium 4% or higher (s30v, 20cv, and others), I can use the Spydie UF but *only* in a super limited role to refine an edge. I would not personally use the ceramic for regular apexing/sharpening as part of a progression. For refining, I'm doing a handful (like 5 per side) of super light strokes with knife barely touching the stone. This can either be at the same sharpening angle, or slightly raised to create a micro. Typical Spyderco process is use the 15 dps angles to set your bevels, then put the UF rods in the 20 dps angles and a few light strokes to create your micro-bevels.
