I have been trying to create hypertext links, the old way does not work here, or I am doing something wrong.

Can someone break it down for me? I'm old and easily confused. :p

Thanks in advance!!

What kind of hypertext links are you wanting to attain? Usually it's as easy as just right-clicking whichever link you want to copy and then pasting it where you want it. Is there some other thing you're doing with the links?

Is this what you're trying to do?
check out this sheath!

If so, I don't think the Rich Text Editor does that...and exiting the RTE doesn't offer the simple option.
Here's what the code looks like...to do it yourself, put the link inside the first URL brackets, and the words you want to show in the post as the text between the brackets (let's see if it lets me do this, lol)

I was afraid of that...okay
If you use the link symbol in rich text you get
http://www.armoralleather.com/images/sheaths/randall_style_pouch.jpg
The code for which shows up like this:
[ URL]http://www.armoralleather.com/images/sheaths/randall_style_pouch.jpg
(Since noparse coding doesn't work now, I added a space after the first bracket, to break the code - letting you see what needs to be there. Basically, it's the link with URL brackets on both sides.

To insert other text for the link, as I did above, you first move the link INSIDE the URL brackets, then put the other text where the link was.
[ URL=http://www.armoralleather.com/images/sheaths/randall_style_pouch.jpg]check out this sheath!

I like to offset the text but here's what it looks like without that extra step:
check out this sheath!
It does looks different from the rest of the text, but it's relatively easy to miss that there's a link there.

Outstanding! I know I'll struggle with it for a while, but that step by step really helps, Thanks so much hhmoore!!
I am wanting to hypertext my Sub Forum name in my signature, I think I can get it done now. I'm going to use this thread as my lab.

The link button will do what you want. You just have to type what you want your link to say and highlight those words before clicking it. The link button only shows the URL as the link if nothing in the editing area is selected.

To post code, click the + button in the editor and there should be a "Code" option in the dropdown.
