Hi,

Just got this creative idea for a knife design. Overall length should be around 9-10 inch. Then thought well why not drawing it... et voila see the image below.

So why? Well in general I really like the design of the ESEE knives and prefer a plain edge on my blades. Now and then I like to have serrations on my blade but most of the time they're annoying me during standard use. Same for a gut hook, I like it for skinning game but the rest of the time it's in the way. Well you can bring several blades of course (it's what I tend to do most of the time actually ;) ), but while backpacking and bushcrafting etc I try to go out with minimal amount of stuff. So thought maybe I can combine it in a fixed blade and put some extra functionality covered by the handle.

Well I can see some challenges for the handle design, it should fit really well and secure the blade below sufficiently. Screws for securing the handle to the blade will be annoying if you want to move the handle to the other side, but couldn't think of an alternative yet. Same for the lanyard hole, if you have a lanyard attached it's annoying to remove the handle.

Could it work? Well it's just an idea for a design so it doesn't need to go in production, but still curious about your opinions ;) Just shoot :)

Interesting. I like new ideas. That said, in all my years of hunting I've never used a guthook.

Interesting concept. But I, too, have never used a gut-hook. Nor needed serrations. But that is just me. I realize a lot of people do. Or must, since people keep making knives with serrations.

True, I agree on the gut hook. I just threw it in because well... to be honest I'm not using it that often actually  Most of the time I'm just using a drop point blade for the task. Well it looks fun :D

Little variation in the one below, this time without a gut hook ;) Lanyard has been inserted in the handle. Advantage is that it wouldn't bother you when you want to exchange the handle to the other side... but if the handle is not secured well there might be a change that you loose the blade and just walk around with only a handle :o Well you also got the sheet that protects it from losing off course.
