This really struck home so I just had to share.

I'm still very new so my knives are going to friends and family. They're always impressed (or pretend to be) and say great things but I can't help but see all the imperfections. Each new knife is a learning experience where I discover how to do one or two things better but then find many more things I did wrong.

Not being satisfied is indeed part of the fun/frustration. People have said it takes at least two people to finish a knife... one to make it, and one to tell him he's done. ;)

Or two or three to tell him it's done, cause he won't believe the first one or two.:D
The creators curse is one I know well.

I show my wife and family knives all the time and complain about issues and they can never see them. Even after I point them out most of the time they will say that I am being too picky.
I think that as we grow and our knife making skills improve we will never be satisfied with a knife. I would be willing to bet that if you asked Don Hanson III, Nick Wheeler, or Karl Anderson to name a couple and they would be able to pick out things they were not 100% happy with. I had one older maker tell me once that "it was not how good of a maker you are, but how well you can hide your mistakes". Not sure if I totally agree with that word for word, but I think I get what he was meaning.

So that's my problem? What's the prognosis Doc? Is it chronic? Is there a cure or any hope?

I worked with a guy that made the large bowies like the ABS guys, but he didn't forge them. His fit was outstanding, but his finish needed a little more work. He gave his knives as gifts and refused to put his name on them.

You will get better with each knife and you will learn something every day. Don't get discouraged!

I have the same issue. A few weeks ago several family was giving me a hard time about the same thing , telling me I was just being OCD because I keep making knives and throwing them away because I am not happy with the quality. They kept saying there was not a thing wrong (yes there was lol) so I showed them one of Coops threads and now they understand a little better.
