Credit Card Scam Still Alive!

A couple of makers posted something recently regarding a credit card scam operation originating in Indonesia, etc. Usually the request was to purchase an item worth several thousand dollars to be billed to a card merchant account, or even to several cards.

I'm selling a couple of high-end watches from my collection on eBay right now and I'm getting the same inquiries! Will I ship to Indonesia, will I take payment in full on a credit card acccount, they will pay shipping, etc., etc.

I'm assuming these are the same scammers - just "fishing" in another pond!

Makers beware! This scum is still out there.

These guys shop for anything high end. As unfortunate as it may be, unless you know the person you are shipping to, my advice is that you only take money orders or bank drafts. If you are thinking of taking a credit card, tell the person that you need to get the information from the card first so that you can check it out. Also make sure that the address you are shipping to matches that given for the card holder. Do not ship to any address other than that of the registered card holder.

Don't worry, Keith - I've sold quite a few watches on eBay for between $1,000 and $6,000. I wouldn't send these guys the TIME of day, never mind the TIMEPIECE! ;)

Geez, I'm getting sick of this scum!

Just received a "Congratulations! Your item is sold!" notice from eBay. Well, not quite.

The "Buy Now!" option was triggered by another "buyer" (with a "0" Feedback rating)from Indonesia - even though my listing states quite clearly that I will ship only to US and Canada, and that Buyer MUST accept escrow (which I will pay for.). The eBay Safety Harbor Team is now investigating.

Be careful out there. Especially if you're a knifemaker getting a big order from Indonesia and they want to pay by credit card(s)!
