Cree replacement head for a Surefire L4

I bought a Fenix P1 recently and the new Cree led is incredible. Does anyone know of a Cree replacement head for a Surefire L4?

Also, thinking about putting a Cree on my Surefire G2 Nitrolon but I've read concerns about that much heat on the non-metallic body of the Nitrolon. Anybody with any experience on this?

1. Leave the L4 as is, the Cree's haven't been proven, have inflated Lu ratings, and won't work with the L4's reflector.

2. A drop in Cree module will burn up in a nylotron light, as the heat sinking is insufficient.

SF told me a few weeks ago they had no plans to upgrade the L2 or L4 to cree LED.

Thanks for the reminder to buy a fenix!

I have an L4 but am looking forward to similar performance at 25% of the cost.

You may get similar lumens from the Fenix but you won't get that "wall of light" that makes the L4 so nice. The Fenix has a much tighter focused beam as do most all other LED lights.

If by "not proven" you're referring to their long term reliability, then I guess I can't argue that, given their relatively short time on the market. However, while talk of "inflated lumen ratings" may or may not be true, there's no question that the Cree is quite a bit brighter than the brightest 3W Luxeon I've ever seen.

the P1D-CE is brighter than the L4 FWIW, i have both..........

"wall of light", well i dont know, BUT the P1D-CE is brighter.

as far as cost the P1D-CE is ~50% cheaper than the L4 lol ($70 vs $130)

I have 3 Crees, one in a Fenix P1D-CE. Thought it doesn't have the fit and finish of my Surefire A2, it effectively put it into retirement. The Fenix is smaller, lighter, runs longer on a single 123, and puts out an amazing bit of light. Yes, when I need incan I pull out the A2, it's still an amazing light. I haven't noticed the Fenix get overly hot.

My other 2 Crees are in Miller Modded Arc AAAs. I have a 1.5W and a 1.25W. They do get noticeably hot, but it's fun to see so much light coming out of such a small flashlight with a single AAA battery.

No problems with any Crees yet though I use them often.
